Yeah, over it's 10 year lifespan.
Yeah, over it's 10 year lifespan.

How many of those accounts are actual players and not ill-gotten goods used by gilsellers?
It's comforting to know the game is growing, but I've always taken issue with the numbers game because details like whether such things are being used by customers or are merely sitting there collecting a monthly subscription are disregarded. From a profit standpoint, I'm sure SE doesn't care either way, but I do.

We need to see down the road, because I don't think people in their free month (almost everyone that bought it in October) counts as a subscriber.Try reading the article, it's right in the title. Jesus.
FFXIV has sold ~1.5m units as of Sept 30th (and likely more now), but has 600k current subscribers. That means more than half of the people that bought game, are no longer playing it. That said, 600k is still a good number and above SE's expectations, which pleases the executives to keep wanting to put money into the game.
Not sure why people like to compare FF14 to WoW by using subscription. Yoship make it pretty clealy with SE's forecast playerbase for FF14. They only want to pass FF11 and that is why they have hard time with their launch.
It also really depends. Remember, last month they sold 500,000 more copies. 1.5m registered users. 600,000 PAYING subscribers. This is based on those who have paid. What about people who still have their first month? We don't know how many of those there are. We also don't know how many of them will sub so that's also irrelevant but trust me when I say this is normal. Typically only a fraction of the people who buy an mmo even subscribe.
Guys, the 1.5mil number is counting from the 1.0 days, so its 600k Subs from the 1.5 mil units sold since Sept 30, 2010. Perspective is important.
No it isn't. There was 1.5 million people that signed up for the beta alone. On it's re-release they sold out in nearly all retailers the pc version. The digital version had to be completely suspended because of how many people bought the game. Source..

"Square Enix recently sent out a press release revealing that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has exceeded 1.5 million registered accounts since its launch 2 months ago. Given the information we received at Tokyo Game Show 2013, FFXIV has added more than 500,000 accounts in a month’s time."

The people who bought the game in October also don't count as any of the 1.5M reported sales of the game as of Sept 30.
But I agree that these numbers are just data points on separate charts and we can't form any conclusions or trending info from them.

There are also ppl in those numbers like me, I bought both ps3 and PC but only count as one account!
