    Clearly, you don't understand the concept of having friends, and bringing people into your own linkshell. Everyone I ran into or brought into our linkshell was far from a elitist. Much like the one I made this time again. Not a single person in my LS is an elitist. Unlike most of you, its not about "omfg get to end game, do coil. You dies?? Omfg nubz gtfo bai" for us. If I'm paying $15 a month for a VIDEO GAME I'm going to make it fun for myself. It's not my fault or anyone elses you were in a "top tier" LS with elitists. That choice was yours. I choose my players whom I want to quest with, I make my own memories, I create my own fun. "Clearly" you don't know how to correctly socialize in a video game. All this generation of gamers is good for is "who can reach the end the fastest" and "my dick is bigger than your dick" attitudes.

    I think we've all met them though, the people just incapable of improving..the ones that just...you can tell them time and time again and they let it go in one ear and out the other.
    There are different mentalities in the world, most of us have a competitive attitude with games. some do not. The case with this player was that he was just looking for a place to hang out, have fun and meet people, he was not there to "win" or be the "best".
    You well know the Korean culture is very strict when it comes to succeeding/working and making something out of yourself, I am sure this man was not going to repeat that stern way of living on the only place that allowed him to do whatever he wanted.
    I think the story shows that we are forgetting ourselves when there is a barrier between people, when our face is not shown we show our true colors, our true spirit. Isn't it scary to realize that in truth you are a horrible person in heart when our everyday facade is removed?
    You are right, some people just can not play these types of games, but I think we will have a much better time if we get to know this people just a tiny bit and help them play along with us, yes we will never be competitive with them on tow, but it is not important compared to the happiness we bring to strangers.

    Have you not ever had a moment when you wish people would have been at least a bit sympathetic?

    The lesson here is that a person who is bad at a game, whether because it's not their type of game or because they're slow at learning, does not deserve to be hated and ostracized by the community at large. I know this is the internet, but I still believe that treating people a certain way you wouldn't in person shouldn't be acceptable online either. Try to justify it any way you want, but you can tell a lot about a person by how s/he treats others and to me, you're a second rate human being if that is how you act.

    Personally, I find elitists to be boring to play with. Successful, sure, but boring. I remember clawing my way to the top of FF11 to join an HNMLS only to bow out gracefully a few weeks in when my great experience up to that point turned into me being pulled out of any and everything I enjoyed to sit in Dragon's Aery, Behemoth's Dominion and Valley of Sorrows for X amount of minutes/hours.

Their only "real accomplishments" or "glory" can only be obtained on a game because they cannot achieve something more worthwhile offline. Also a lot of these jerks are also people who wouldn't pull off their d-bag attitudes in real life because they know they cannot get away with it. I remember some of these types of people sending me pics of what they look like IRL - majority of them looked like they couldn't hurt a fly or shady in general (i.e. sociopath, creepy) lol...

    Because this is the internet, however, it essentially opens the door for people to act or be what they cannot be offline.

    My last titan hm run was a nice example of a player who needed help.He was a tank and wasnt even that bad geared with garuda weapon and some af2 items but he couldnt manage to hold aggro from them WHMs so after our 3rd wipe ppl started to moan and wanted to replace him.So i gave him a few advices on how to do a proper rotation and voila he was alrdy tanking like he should be.He then thanked me and said he was also very nervous since we were all geared in full dl with our relics, relics+1 and i just told him to relax and enjoy the game.
    The people shouting you only need a relic for a speed run are not the real elitists. You can't just shout for people with relics in this game because relic does not = geared. Anyone in FFXI with a relic more than likely was very geared. Not the case in this game. Anyone has and can get a relic these days. Whenever I shout for my speed runs, I say you need EXPERIENCE and be OP/geared! Don't even bother /tell'ing me if you are not geared/experienced/overpowered. I don't even mention relic in my shout because there are so many idiots with relics out there that don't know thier job/rotation. They should have a relic though, but that goes without saying. It doesn't even need to be said in my shout. As far as a tank in Titan goes, I tanked it fine as PLD in all armor greens, gc 50 weapon, with DPS blue accessories. However, I had really good healers backing me up, and I was very strict in my shout just like for my speed runs. If you are the leader of your group, and you have the aura of someone who knows what they're doing with people supporting you, no one will question your gear or authority. Titan is not just a gear check (moreso for healers/DPS), it's a "Are you smart enough to avoid plumes and death" check.

    I see this kind of comment from many posters here all the time, and I am certain it will be said many times in this topic alone;
    In FFXIV, everything is just grind, so reducing the time spent doing it is incredibly important, which creates the "elitist" community.
    Actually, in my opinion, the grind is completely illusory. I see people every day complaining about that grind, but - based on their comments- the majority of them used FATE-spam to get to 50.

    Take your time, run quests, run linked leves with friends, run the side quests, there is a ton to do. But, if your goal is to hit the end-game as quickly as possible and get the best end-game gear as quickly as possible then once you get there, all you can do is grind for tomes and complain about grinding for tomes. It's those same people who are pulling the elitist crap on end-game content because they *have* to speed run their allocation of myth tomes in 1 day, so any delay is a cardinal sin.

    The game is *not* a grind if you;

    a) make friends,
    b) join a good free company
    c) run group content with said friends and FC
    d) share knowledge with friends/FC
    e) help friends/FC/anyone that needs it
    f) don't FATE-spam
    g) chat to your friends/FC during your play time
    h) take a break from your main class every once in a while and work on a different class/job for variety
    i) take a break from your DoW/DoM leveling and work on a crafter or gatherer
    j) craft and gather for friends

    And that's without mentioning the story quests, end-game grinding, the Coil, Crystal Tower or working towards a better FC company house.

    I mean holy crap people, it's an MMORPG, it's a social game, we're supposed to play together and help each other. Even at end-game, the first groups to run any of the end-game content did so with the gear that you have post story, it's utterly asinine, not to mention elitist and exclusionary, to demand relics and other gear only obtainable through tomes on the same damned quests that you have to run to get the tomes in the first place.

    That doesn't even begin to cover the bullying and other anti-social behavior or players who simply cannot have less than perfection on their team. Sure a team is as strong as the weakest link, so make the links stronger, don't cut them out and look for a replacement.

    Don't misunderstand me, I don't believe that end-game torture...ur...um...raiding I mean, is for everyone. It's not, and at the moment it's for far fewer than could run it simply because people don't like intentionally sticking their hand in a meat grinder. With the the intrusive and ridiculous gear checks and demands on players to run for tomes, it's no wonder people feel left out, or worse. I took my time leveling and am just getting to the climax of the story. to be honest, the general behavior of end-game players really put me off, and so I deliberately took my time with everything.

    To be perfectly honest, here is what I think is wrong with the MMO community right now;
    There is a large section of the community who focus on end-game alone. They want the best gear as fast as possible, and do not participate in anything that does not lead to the best gear.

    These players typically take the game far too seriously, and a large proportion will use parsers to parse DPS. They treat the game as a mathematical exercise in top efficiency for damage and nothing else. They pre-determine the gear requirements to achieve maximum DPS and efficiency, and they will not accept anything less from anyone they play with. They demand high level players in high level gear and nothing else is permitted.

    Forget it if you just want to have fun, they are running those speed runs and if you do anything to cost them seconds or even a whole minute of time, you're gone. Take 4 seconds to skip a cut scene - gone. Missed a button on a skill - gone. Too slow - gone. Playing a healer and don't want to engage in damage dealing - gone. Playing a tank and actually attempting to tank mobs - gone.

    No tolerance to anything except maximum efficiency in DPS and speed.

    This breeds elitism, it breeds discrimination against players who are considered under equipped, too slow, playing an undesired class, or simply don't fit into the cookie cutter end-game, speed run, min/max point of view.
    This group's very point of view is utterly incompatible with the wider scope and experience of a real, traditional MMORPG. I believe that this point of view is a destructive influence in RPGs, it literally sucks then joy out of the experience.

    Something a LOT of people could usefully learn is this. that character you are playing with, behind that character is a real live, thinking, breathing person who deserves as much civility and respect as you think you do. Too many people say things like "it's just a game" or "it just the internet" or "who cares, it's not like we'll ever meet". Sentiments like that are nothing more then excuses for mistreating people. It's time we started to remember that the players behind avatars are real people, and treating them accordingly.

    I am also afraid this isnt the right community/game for you, while there is definately a lot of good people, the majoirty of players are not here for the social aspect of MMOs, they are here to get gear and point fingers at who didnt.
    1) The bandwidth of his connection is perfectly fine, and DSL isn't bad for latency and pings, no more so than ADSL.

    2) this so much IS the right game, unfortunately we currently have a large number of players who are not here for the social aspect. But then on the other hand there are a lot of players who ARE here for that. Just find a good FC/LS and server and you're set.

    I realize that you don't mean me directly when you say "you". I'm actually pretty forgiving and generous myself. A very geared random whm and I spent an hour wiping to the final boss of AK last night, trying to teach these two dps how to beat it and they could not learn. Towards the end, we were just hoping that maybe RNG would favor the whm with tethers. It never happened that way though :/

    You are right, some people just can not play these types of games, but I think we will have a much better time if we get to know this people just a tiny bit and help them play along with us, yes we will never be competitive with them on tow, but it is not important compared to the happiness we bring to strangers.
    I think the same. When I can carry people, I don't mind to. I favor classes that have the strength the carry others (Ochain Paladin in XI, Disc Priest/Restro Druid/Prot Paladin in Warcraft). When it's not needed, I can have fun, but when it's needed, I can supplement them and usually make sure they live, however there are some encounters that cannot be done if everyone is not pulling their weight or are very difficult. (dragon boss of AK for instance, demon wall is tough to 3 man but doable).

    Have you not ever had a moment when you wish people would have been at least a bit sympathetic?
    Yep, I've made mistakes too and always hate when people won't give me a chance to learn. My first 50 was a Paladin, and my first six AKs, people disbanded before we got to the first giant (4 disbanded before we moved) because I didn't know what a (pre-patch) speed run was or how to do it. Remembering episodes like that, I always try to be lenient with people, but I have run in to people who make it apparent they're not going to listen and even get offended when you try to offer help.

    After a regen before each of the first four pulls of one AK, I asked the whm not to regen me before a pull or towards the end of a pull, and the response I got was "don't tell me how to play, and I won't tell you".

    I have known people like this warrior and presently still do, people that you take with because they're Really Nice Guys but you know your friends are going to have to carry them and some of them, I wouldn't take to fights where I know that a person's misaction is capable of wiping the group.

    i can't write my story since it like 3000 caracter and im limit to only 1000.

    long story short, we got one dps in our last run that, even if i pass most of the time explaining WHAT to do, WHEN to do... that the mob are marked, and my brother try to keep his aggro...

    he :

    1. pull any mob not marked or marked 2-3.... never the one
    2. keep casting his AoE ice around him.... while standing far from the mob
    3. didn't bother to DPS any boss or any add
    4. keep pulling mob everywhere even after i let him die when he was pulling pack of mob we wheren't even figting,
    5. make us WIPE 3 time....

    and even worst.

    what would you have done
