I hate to say that but with your connection its gonna be impossible to do endgame or any sort of challenging content, and a lot of people will look at you as a "pariah" because of this.

I am also afraid this isnt the right community/game for you, while there is definately a lot of good people, the majoirty of players are not here for the social aspect of MMOs, they are here to get gear and point fingers at who didnt.

But there are games and friends for you, just keep searching... and grow a thicker skin cos you gonna need it.

I actually have pretty good pings and I've never noticed myself lagging, but admittedly I haven't been in any high level content. I counted raiding out from the start just because I don't think I can do VoIP at the same time. I appreciate your honesty, but I think I'm going to hang around a little longer before tucking my tail between my legs. At least until I've seen a little more.

I am basically telling you that you shouldn't make claims about the community of a game just because that's how you persieve it (probably in part because of this forum too, where only people with a level 50 character can post without post per day (3!!!!!!) restrictions, mostly coming here to complain because they are bored for whatever reason)

you have a distorted view of the ARR community, and even if this was the community, you should still have told him to find an understanding, maybe 'casual' FC/LS, and not tell him to find a different game instead because the the majority of the end-game community is toxic and not interested in socialising at all. that is your point of view, not the reality.

also not sure why you call the community of most AAA games 'sick'.

I'm enjoying my time in the games I play. I have found plenty of friends in the games I played the last few years (mostly LOTRO, TSW and TOR, but also GW2 for a little bit inbetween when I didn't feel like 'serious gaming')
I joke around with people plenty, and realise that the people being idiots in group finder runs and the likes are usually the minority, they are just far more obvious than the nice folks. nothing else (one bad guy can spoil a 16 man raid)

He sounds too much of a genuine player for the sick community of most AAA mmorpgs... of course that is only my opinion.

You know this has been bothering me for awhile now.

If I go to the gym, I get along with everyone there because we all share a common interest
If I go out to dinner and meet some new people. I get along with them because we share a common interest.
If I go to a music gig/festival I get along with everybody there because we share a common interest

I wonder why as a community we feel the need to cause so much division between us when we have this amazing thing in common. There are hundred and thousands of things in the world that you could be doing. But here you are, in a community of people that like the exact same thing that you do!

You should be happy that there are people out there that share the things that you are passionate about. That's life my friend ,a whole series of social synaptic connections made possible by commonality

Its actualy pretty easy .. people are assholes by default (including myself), and you cant expect that their nature change to better one when they login into the online game. In real life our action its limited. We need to deal with consequences of our actions (basicaly you really dont wanna piss someone who is 2times bigger then you).In online games there isnt any really hard consequences, to be hones there isnt single one (just imagine how would you play if your account would be closed for week when you died ^^).
So only real advice i can give you is... try to find suitable Free Company or linkshell... and ofc grow up thats how world works stop QQ about community , community was bitch anyway a long time ago

ff14 coomunity is probably even worse.Nowdays all you see in shouts is "LF relic+1 DPS WP/AK SR"I mean common relic+1 for a WP speed run?! to save what 2 minutes of the timer??Countless have been the times i've joined such "elite" partys to find out they didnt had a clue on how to even do a SR so we ended up taking more than 20min to finish it......The amount of elitism in this game is breath taking.
My last titan hm run was a nice example of a player who needed help.He was a tank and wasnt even that bad geared with garuda weapon and some af2 items but he couldnt manage to hold aggro from them WHMs so after our 3rd wipe ppl started to moan and wanted to replace him.So i gave him a few advices on how to do a proper rotation and voila he was alrdy tanking like he should be.He then thanked me and said he was also very nervous since we were all geared in full dl with our relics, relics+1 and i just told him to relax and enjoy the game.

I miss the old days where ppl played to have fun and interact/socialize with eacother..waiting in 2h queues for Alterac Valey chatting with your group and getting to know eacother and guess what no one really cared how long the queues were.Helping low level players completing a quest or to complete their epic mount/weapon quest..etc etc..Where server reputation meant something, nowdays ppl jump from guild to guild like there is no tomorrow and no one really knows eacother...man i miss the old days.

I remember games where you couldnt even check people, let alone set gear requirement.
But you knew everyone that was fun to play with and didnt need to check their gear, the battlefield told us who was good and who wasnt.

Now someone will jump in to say that FFXIV community isnt that bad etc etc etc... probably you didnt play long enough to see the changes.

This story has really struck a chord with me. My heart aches for him, and any other players who have dealt with the bullies. I think everyone has at some point, I remember how much I struggled when I first started playing MMOs...

Not to sound mean, but I don't see anywhere in the story where the guy actually improved. I hoped that the story would end in the OP taking the refitted warrior to a raid and seeing him compete with the top dps in the group.

And further, I hate to sound mean, but stamina gemming on warrior DPS (that's precisely as bad as HP gemming/enchanting/whatever would seem in most games) is so cliche it makes it hard to believe. The warrior in the story claims that he followed all the resources linked to him. Every dps warrior resource will talk about the proper gems, and what gem-bonuses are worth pursuing.

I think we've all met them though, the people just incapable of improving..the ones that just...you can tell them time and time again and they let it go in one ear and out the other.
