Make FFXIV more like FFXI and less like WoW

I'm just curious with all the people complaining about XIV and how it NEEDS to be more like XI, why aren't you just playing XI? It's still available to play and they still put out content regularly. You know what I remember about XI. I remember how you had to grind everything right out of the gate from lvl 1-50 (yes I played XI before the NA release with Rise of Zilart). I remember how difficult it was to create a pt as a DD, sometimes sitting around for weeks in Jeuno and even after rolling a tank it wasn't much of an improvement. I realize the FFXIV isn't for everyone, and I certainly agree that there needs to be more content, difficulty, and a sense of community, but I don't want to see another FFXI. Also for those that didn't play FFXIV 1.0 it was a lot like FFXI with similar combat style and menu layout and it was considered so difficult to cope with that SE tore it down and rebuilt it. Just saying.

The reason I personally am not playing ffxi is because ffxi is not ffxi anymore, its something else that was all to recently made worse by the application of ideas learned from our very own yoshida. I remember all the same things you do from ffxi, I also remember a lot of the more important fun times that came with that. People always are very quick to say "this was something I didnt like" but it was part of the journey, I remember the hard time I had getting my Dark Knight AF helm... It took me quite a while trying to get some people to help and then I had to climb the maze to actually get to the fight but it was all for fun. Why do people expect to never have to do this?

Furthermore, why is it somehow not ok to have another ffxi styled game? There are already tons of wow-wannabe games out, so what exactly is not ok about 2 - 3 ffxi alternatives?

hard to say they don't when only 1 FFXI style game exists. FFXI and its STILL going after what....10 yrs+?

I never said it wasn't ok. Though I can see how it came off as though that's what I meant. I did get a little snide towards the end. I personally do not want to see another FFXI grind fest. I can of course respect your reasons as to why you don't play FFXI now, and like I said I would like to see the difficulty increased in FFXIV, it is a bit too easy even for the increasingly casual player. I guess after seeing this type of thread pop up so often I want people to give a better reason then "for nostalgia" as to why things should be added from FFXI. If I come of as ranting I'm sorry I'm not trying to be. I am honestly just trying to understand peoples reasoning.

Yeah I didn't mean for it to come out as me saying they should go play it. I was genuinely curious as to why they didn't just play FFXI. I know it's an over stated comment but most of the time it's used to lash out. I was trying to ask an actual question. ^_^

That makes sense and I see where you are coming from. I do hold FFXI in a special part of my memories, as it was my first MMO and through all the bad there were plenty of goods that I certainly do miss. Thanks for giving a real answer.

@ Gogatsu390 mhm, I personally am upset with the state of ffxi as redemption said its not as it once was, its a mere shell of its former glory, the lively zones where u saw partys everywhere, random people running around, fishing sitting together etc the game felt quite alive every zone had a purpose, may it of been lvln quests items NMS missions etc, it all had a point to be there which on ffxiv I don't get that same feeling, it feels....just as it is, a game ): that passion and heart that was put into ffxi I just don't see it in ffxiv atm its a decent game imo but has much to be desired.

The reason we don't play FFXI is because FFXI is no longer FFXI. It's no longer the same game it was from 2002-2009. SE killed it for us. We hoped FFXIV would cater to us a little bit. But it didn't. But XIV is a fun game for the most part. I don't have any serious complaints. But we can't go back to FFXI. It's like going back to your hometown and finding that all of your child play places have been bulldozed and replaced with crappy restaurants, shopping malls and lawyer's offices.

It was more a general comment towards the community (I edited it in as an after thought). Like you, I respect that ffxi was not perfect for everyone and am perfectly fine with your style of play. I knew coming into this game it would not be FFXI, still I would like it to be the natural next best thing you know? I just want to see 'more' or at least a spirit of ffxi here and I know I have to curb my expectations or decide to pack up and leave if what is here is not for me. Mostly im in this thread defending ffxi as a good game and some ideas as good ideas even if they need to be tweaked a bit.

@orson_dara Actually they do make money, FFXI is considered as SE's most successful product (as stated by SE themselves)
