Thank you for this post. You put in way more effort than I am willing to with this game. I love the gameplay but this lag is making me plan on not subbing to this game yet. Its unbearable chasing mobs around the map trying to hit them. Adding the fact that almost every NPC has some sort of AOE move you need to avoid with 500ping at least constantly I can only play this game in small sittings. The laziness addressing this problem is not helping. SO again thanks for making this post and I hope they do something about this soon because I am totally fine just playing Elder Scrolls once its launched.

I have the same problem as you guys. I'm getting around it by using a VPN to avoid the problematic routers. This is all that we can do, aside from spamming our ISPs and asking them to stop routing us like this.
They don't seem to even acknowledge that there is a problem. Anyway, I don't care where exactly the problem lies. If they intend to charge a subscription fee then they have to provide a service that is worth the money. Currently they are not doing that to me (and obviously many others), so it should be in their interest to find a solution unless they want to lose subscribers.

It's literally impossible for them to fix this problem. What do you propose they do?

This thread is basically the equivalent of complaining to your postal service that your mail is taking too long to arrive, while the reason it's taking too long is that the mailman has to travel over dirt roads that are full of pot holes and flooded in places. The postal service has no control over the quality of the roads that the mailman has to take to reach you.

This is exactly what's happening. On your way from your ISP to the servers, your connection is going through a poor quality router. Neither parties have control over this.

So what you're saying is that even though every other MMO out there (and games in other genres) seem to have avoided this problem, we still can't blame SE for this or expect them to do something about it?

    ......................... Sigh.

Your analogy makes no sense either. What you forget is that other companies can provide similar services without any hickups. Imagine if there were several different postal services all competing for customers, but only one of them used the "bad" roads. Which postal service do you think the customers would prefer to use?

It's because of the locations of SE's server NA servers. I can't think of any other MMO with their servers in Montreal; most are in Virginia or California. Your connection takes different routes to reach them.

Square Enix has literally zero control over the route your connection takes. Zero. None. They cannot change it.
If you were to play any other MMO with a server in Montreal, you would encounter the exact same problem.

So they picked some weird servers in Montreal instead of using what everyone else is using (if what you say is true). How can you then say that they have no control over the issue? To me that sounds like they put themselves in this situation and no one except they themselves can solve it.

This wasn't a problem when they decided to put the servers in Montreal. The route connections to the server took was fine for all of beta and most of September.
Do you propose SE hire psychics? Is that your solution?

Here's a thread with 121 pages of complaints that disagrees with what you just said: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-fix-something.

I did not play during the beta or in September, but according to what people are writing here on the forums the problem did already exist in beta.

And I'm not supposed to provide them with a solution. I'm a paying customer and I expect to get a fully functional product. It's up to them to figure out how to deliver that, if they intend to keep their customers.

most of the beta but there were problem during beta 4 and early access and many have had the 90k issues since release, so no sir, it was not as smooth as you think, they also admitted that the numbers of player were overwhelming, much much much higher then they had in mind, when deciding the server locations, as it stands now it's looking more like they are waiting for the people with issues to go away, and they are happy with whats left because that is what they had in mind (player numbers) to begin with.

If this were SE's problem, every single person on your server would be experiencing the same problem. They aren't. But please continue to argue, evidently you're a world class software engineer and know what you're talking about.

Let's try one last analogy: You're complaining to a mechanic that your ride down a dirt road full of holes is too bumpy and demanding that they fix it. Is it the mechanic's job to go fix the road? Do you understand how retarded you sound, trying to demand SE fix something they have no control over?

I'm done here. Keep crying, you may as well cancel your sub because SE can't fix your problem.
