Looks to me like it was a statement of fact alongside an optional alternative. Why are you so quick to want everyone to go play a different game? In what world do you live in, because in case you have not noticed FFXIV had an absolute terrible launch and was rated one of the worse games of 2011. Out of hundreds of thousands of copies that it sold only a few thousand are still playing. That is only a handful for an MMO.
If everyone does indeed leave this game (whatever people are still sticking my SE, and that includes people in the forums because no matter they don't play... They wish this game to be successful) Not only will you NOT have a FF MMO to play, but SE could go bankrupt and you may never have another FF again.
So really I have to say to you... You got to stop driving people out of this game. Trust me, there are not so many left. Keep telling people to leave and soon there won't be anyone to leave.
I didn't see anything that implied he wanted anyone to leave.
I hear that rash statements like yours are the product of a guilty conscience.
Right on. Rate up for valid points rather than "Gimme jump because I want to jump!!" = DI never said you did, L. But that is a sentiment I see often on the topic of jump.
The funny thing about that is that having to walk around everything from low fences to pebbles on the road is more immersion-killing than having the ability to jump would.
Secondly, character movement, despite what some may thing, is not smoothed out. Adding jump requires them to smooth character animations and reactions between player input (controller or keyboard) and the character moving. This is big to me because I want to see boss encounters that involve more movement and positioning and I know I'm not going to see that based on what we have right now.
Thirdly, dungeon design suffers a bit because you can't have ledges, platforms or anything of that sort. It all has to be ramps in order to move about. Concerned about players getting to places they shouldn't? Invisible walls are the answer there, probably associated with walls of smoke or columns of fire, or in the case of the Garleans, could even be lasers and force fields to keep things in theme.
I'm more against stupid arguments for jumping than actually being against jumping. It's my opinion that improvements can be made to make the game fun & interesting all without implementing jump. It's definitely not a requirement for me. With all the more important things the game needs at best it should be a low priority and may not even be needed at all. But if it does happen, so be it.
I have not taken a "you're not one of us so leave" stance with people who have different opinions.
Just saying its silly to say to people 'go play rift', 'then go play that X game' or go back to wow. People are here cause they want this game to succeed. Stop telling them to go away, you don't really want that. People going away makes for a very sad lonely mmo....
It makes some sense. If a person wants a game that has certain features, should they...I have not taken a "you're not one of us so leave" stance with people who have different opinions.

A) Play the games that have those features
B) Play a game without those features and whine all day about how horrible it is because it doesn't have them, hoping to get it changed
Worth mentioning that it was said in response to someone who constantly bashes FF people as if their opinion doesn't matter & they should leave. So I'd say they're even.

I was referring to the person you were quoting. In essence, I agree with you. Sorry for the misunderstanding.I have not taken a "you're not one of us so leave" stance with people who have different opinions.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
True.
ppl like evangela want to turn this game into some childish c*** ("the game sucks because u cant jump" explains all) instead of just going to one of the other 500 MMOs out there where u can jump around like a rabbit all the time.
What is unlimited jumping good for? Absolutely NOTHING, instead of looking at dozens of ppl jumping around without a break...
I hope the FFXIV devs are a bit like the EVE ones, which dont care about those WoW/Hello Kitty-type players.
Perfect solution.
They can handle jump the same way they handle auto-follow.
When I 2-box, Character A is followed by Character B. When character A stops moving, character B stops moving on Character A's screen, but is running in place on Character B's screen. I'm not 100% positive, but this is probably because Character B isn't changing positions on the x-y plane...so there is no need to display a running animation on any other clients.
If SE was to make jump be a "z" function on an x-y-z plane, they could configure it so that players could either choose to see the "z" plane movement or not. This way, if you want to see jumping, you can do so. If you don't want to see jumping, you don't have to. I mean, we already see ridiculous clipping when players run up and around small hills, so the clipping produced from players that would be jumping wouldn't be all that different.
If you want to jump, you can jump.
If you don't want to jump, you don't jump, and you configure your client to not see other players jump.
Just my 2 cents.
Later all...go Yoshi!!
Not bad at all.Perfect solution.

First double post!
Pretty much only being able to see it on your own screen. That could be the best way to implement jumping if it bothers people so much about rabbit hopping.
