I think all the white knights of this game really have personality disorders. Notice how they all start defending the game then bam a patch hits and they are right back to complaining about it. Then bring up all the rest of the dirty laundry they been wanting to complain about but never had the balls too.
it started out an angry rant and then turned into something that had some good points. I can only hope in the long run things look up as the level cap raises, and the true "end game" is much high levels, meaning atleast we'll have plenty of quality not bum rush content from 50 on up.
I totally agree with you on how crafting has been GUTTED since 1.0. As spotty as 1.0 was, I remember gear had more meaning to it as it wasn't just handed to you, and crafting made a bigger difference. now, its abit sad that
I'm lvl 50 all crafts and the most money I make is tips from material melding relics. lawl.
This right here is exactly why I was afraid of these devs taking over XIV in the first place, they did the same thing to XI by releasing Abyssea, they just don't comprehend the meaning of progress much less the meaning of balance.
The Oxymoron thing here, is that most of these players complain about how FFXI was nothing but a grind in the same area on the same mob....
Sorry to break it to you.. But so is FFXIV, except instead of the same area and mob, its the same dungeon, over and over and over, and unlike FFXI where you can look forward to that new skill, new sets of armor, new quests, and new part of the main story, and loads of other things at your next 10 levels, you having nothing to look forward too, except yet.. More of the same dungeon...
Good read, good points. You summed it up nicely and I'm sure a large majority feel the same way. I'm looking forward to 2.1+ They may not have the most solid foundation of a game to build upon (lag/market board/weekly caps) but they could make some easy quality of life changes and really change the game for the better.
I'm sorry if casual players prefer this game the way it is because it only means you probably have no sense of accomplishment, in real life or in game. I'm sorry if you fail at life or are simply discouraged by basic challenge but many of us enjoyed the difficulty of the Final Fantasy before Yoshi P ever got here. I say Yoshi P but I know these aren't just his ideas, it's the whole development crew that came with him, and their concepts of blizzard like appeal really have discouraged the real challenge bases of all players. The entire reasoning behind making this game appeal to casuals is money, for the same reason people stopped playing Demon Souls after the first level, is the exact reason SE decided to let Yoshi P develop this game as such. More people buy and play for longer if they don't fail as frequently.
Aside from wishing that elements mattered... I don't understand what was so great about FFXI and I played it for a long time. I had a 65 Red Mage, 40 Dark Knight and Ranger with everything else in the 30s. FFXI fighting was somewhat more complex, but really only because of skill chains. Otherwise you did have a basic rotation. There were very few quests actually worth anything outside of story quests. All you did was level at specific areas on specific maps fighting specific mobs until you hit end game.. which was a different beast from the actual game much like FFXIV is now. I wouldn't say it was more fun or challanging, but it was more tedious.
I find this endgame far more tedious, also at level 65 how would you even know what the endgame was like in XI?Aside from wishing that elements mattered... Because the internet didn't exist.... and I didn't know anyone else in the world.. so how could I have possibly seen end game right? Don't be niave. You want tedius... let's talk Dynamis... let's talk relic weapons that took 2 years to get. Let's talk AF2 gear that most people never got.
Look I played EQ and yea... raiding was fun back in the day.. but we didn't know any better. Sitting in a raid for more than 4 hours.. F that. I have a real life now. I'm not in high school anymore. Spending days grinding out 1 level... again. We didn't know better.. back in the day the GRIND is what made the game and that is because EQ made it that way. FFXIV they choose to look at another game to simulate.
