*enters temple and cries about 79 pages* basically these are some TFL: DR questions about being a monk.

I want to focus on one type of crafting initially should I be going for leather or clothworking?

Is it worth leveling up a thaumaturge(iirc) for the cure or can monks do fine without it for the most part?

Are there any other really necessary skills from other classes I should look into? Like stuns for flank and spank moves added to the chain and things like that.

Also the only other FF game I have played is FF:Tactics, I'm really digging this. So sorry if these questions are dumb and obvious because to me they are not.

monk can only cross skill from marauder and lancer, so you cant have cure/thm skill btw, cure is conjurer skill
you will want more than 1 DoH if you are serious of crafting 2 star HQ

just hit 50 on monk, can anyone suggest an optimal rotation using behind and flank skill ?

Thanks for the info. I've been playing for 2 days so the learning curve is still very steep for me.

Honestly crafting isn't going to be a huge deal to me I just want to be able to supplement level gains with decent crafting. I wasn't sure if the leather/cloth route was better for that. Also if you can enlighten me on the best set of DoH skills for crafting items for monk, I would really appreciate it.

basically almost all crafting only need waste not from leatherworker, rumination from carpenter i guess, and trick of trade
all of them are lvl 15 DoH skill

    PB opening
    DK > SP > SP > SP > IR > DM > FR > ToD (will give GL3)

    1. Open Behind - (skipped if opening with PB) Only start with this if you have GL3 and not opening with PB)
    BS > TS > IR > DM > Frac > ToD

The rest are assuming you have GL3

    2. Flank
DK > TwS > SP (If you don't have GL3, you can repeat this 3 times to get it.)
    3. Behind
ID > ID > BS > TS > Flank SP
    4. Flank
    DK > TwS > DM > SP
    5. Behind
ID > ID > BS > TS > Flank SP
    6. Flank
    DK > TwS > SP
    7. Behind (stage 1 repeat)
    ID > ID > BS > TS > IR > DM > Frac > ToD

If you have BfB which i dont yet, then add with with IR.

If TP becomes an issue can lower 1 ID or remove entirely. With a Bard and invigorate you should be OK.

This is what i use anyway. Hopefully its not TOOOO bad for people to rip into it xD Gives me a decent dps with my crappy weapon and AK armour (working on DL atm)

The issue is the added risk for maintaining GL stacks and the extra TP/s burned. Fracture is a pretty decent DPS increase and usually worth it, but Impulse Drive is only a very small increase in DPS, with the cost of the extra TP and GL risk (in addition to the chance to flub the ID itself, wasting it). I generally wouldn't recommend ID on a Monk, although it is relevant for purely maximizing DPS.

Yeah for a prolonged fight where TP maintenance is an issue, i would ommit ID, however if i am zerging the boss e.g. AK final boss, i simply go all out. Doesnt live long enough for tp to be an issue ^^

Is this the optimal MNK rotation? I haven't touched my MNK since 1.0 so I'm lost on how to play it.

I was in the same boat. This i feel is optimal for boss fights. For trash mobs, remove all DoT's so Demolish, Fracture and Touch of death. If you really want to add 1 DoT then make it demolish as it completes the GL rotation.
