    I commend you for that.

But in all honesty, anyone who whines about people watching cutscenes in CM or Prae is being a jerk for the sake of jerkiness. The first time I ran those, I watched every cutscene. Everyone ran ahead of me, and I caught up to them when I was out of the CS. No muss, no fuss.

Also, the only reason I Liked your post is because of the Xenogears quote in your sig.

In 2002-2003 majority of NA players weren't even end-game yet, elitism was very rare in the Japanese end-game scene, nothing like it is in WoW or most MMOs today. Let's not forget that the 75 cap didn't happen until shortly after release of the NA version, which was 2003 - Don't confuse the fact NA players taking advantage of the Japanese player's niceness and eventually "brushing off non JP players" with elitism - You seem to talk about XI predating WoW, so you remember the Dokaka festival?

FFXI feels like an island. Everyone need someone one way or another. Been a lamer, your name goes around fast. Chances are ppl will avoid you. Ppl are also friendlier I got my Mnk Black Belt done (during that time you need drops from 3 hnm which pop like once every 24hours open world and I don't have a hnmls) with the help of friends and strangers.

FFXIV feels rushed. Everyone seems to be rushing. No one stop and look around and say "Hey, nice enviroment we have here."

I am lucky and still is. I got my LS help when I needed. I found ways to earn gils farming lalafells a great way by selling HQ mats or materia.

Not much time to play. But its good to know you have friends and LSmates looking out for you.

If you do please come to Hyperion we need nice people badly! I can already speak for at least 5 or 6 people that would join a friendly linkshell right now!

I was reading through these comments, and didn't thought the same thing lol. But calling it the "nice people FC" may be a little tacky. Overall your correct--there has to be something we as gamers can do to enrich or experience.

To get this back, all it would take was a company with enough balls to make another EQ1 or similar and allow it to live and breathe for the players who appreciate this type of mmo. Instead of doing that though, they keep making these shortlived, instanced, small world mmo's that barely make it 6 months before lack of player retention make them rework their games for f2p. - The funny thing is, mmo's never last long without strong communitys, and they cant be created when the game doesnt encourage in all aspects lots and lots of player interaction/interdependance, and instead does everything it can to not teach you social skills. - But still people ask for more automated methods to avoid player interaction, like fast dungeons, /kick options and instances all over the shop.

    Non-server-specific instance/dungeon/duty finders.

Anonymity and lack of consequence did in courtesy and patience. Thank you Blizzard.

Back in the day in Everquest for instance, you needed groups to progress, you lost exp (and levels) on deaths and you had a reputation that either got you groups or warned people from grouping with you. Hence, assholes didn't last long.

Now the "need" to do everything and have everything NOW has fueled the "need" for immediate queue times etc and with that comes the aforementioned anonymity and lack of personal consequence.

The problem is the cost. Rebuilding something like EQ1 with current-day standards with regards to graphics, sound, and even the UI is going to require a LOT of people, a LOT of time, and a LOT of money. An EQ1 like game isn't likely to get generate enough income to make up for the development cost alone.

Some of the people that made DAoC are working on a new, old-school MMO though called Camelot Unchained. It's looking promising, but you have to like large-scale pvp (or, RvR as it was called in DAoC), because that's what the entire game is about. There will be little to no PvE.

Here's the real reason from my experience. MMO's back in the day attracted a certain kind of a gamer. A gamer that wanted to live in the world around him. To fully immerse himself in the world and be a part of it. Which is what coined the phrase. Massive Multiple online Role Playing Game Eventually mmo's became more mainstream. Now even people who don't care about the RPG aspect got onto the band wagon. These people view mmorpgs as just another game to beat and could care less for actual roleplaying. Not saying this mentality is bad it's just how I see it.
