I didn't say Marauder would unlock White Mage. Most likely Conjurer Would. But once you unlock that Job and have it equipped you shouldn't be forced to stay using that weapon. IE you can then switch to Thaumaturge as your weapon and still be a white mage.
Jobs will not be based off of weapons (most likely) but they will (most likely) have a weapon that they are best with. If this happens, and someone is using the wrong weapon, they can expect to be blisted by everyone. The current system doesn't allow for retardation when it comes to gear. The new system will.

considering onion knight and dancer were able to use purses as a weapon im kind of glad the FF series isnt very consistant, its only so at its core.

Want to purely DD? equip weaponskills and abilities like blindside.

Thats not to say you can't do a little of everything, and that is where the problem is for a lot of people. The role you play is chosen by you, and with so many options it drives people crazy. Can a Conjurer equip shield and hate and curing abilities and want to tank? Sure, but it will not be as effective as a gladiator because it will not have proper gear benefits and timers etc.

From here on out is all speculation and hope
With this class system I'm hoping its like this-
-rank pugilist and gladiator to 25,
    -opens the thf job quest,
-Perform quest and have access to thf job,
-Play gladiator and equip thf job no you will not be able to take certain abilities from other classes, but through quests you could obtain abilities specific to thf job only.
-I personally don't see a problem with equipping jobs on any class, so long as proper penalties and bonuses are appropriated.

Red mage/gladiator would have a little magic and stronger sword strikes than red mage/thaumaturge but /thaum would have better magic. Using the red mage job would take away stuff like ancient magic, but give new red mage only abilities such as haste/refresh through quests. Red mage/pug would use pugilist abilities/weaponskills, some specific abilities from thaum and conj more than likely, and then those specific to red mage job abilities.

    Exactly. Thank You.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Fine but let those choices be up to the player and the playerbase. Not the game.

Some of the best fun I had playing past FF's and even in FFXI was doing things not "Normal" or "Against the Grain" for most people.

I played an entire Playthrough of FFT with 4 White Mages wield Hand Axes and each one using a different sub skill (One black mage, one geomancer, one thief, and one dragoon.)

Half the fun of playing Final Fantasy's Especially the ones with job systems is experimentation. Which means allowing a player to use everything at their discretion with proper penalties for going against the grain and making up for it with ingenuity

You Level Pugilist up to 20. Unlock quest for Monk. Monk is unlocked and equipped. You are still a Pugilist, but with the Monk Specialization equipped you now do Kick Attacks and have skills you can equip that only monk know, but also you can't equip cross class skills monk shouldn't have access too.

The only thing is it doesn't say if monk is forced to always be a pugilist. Which it shouldn't.

Its cool you think it might turn out that way.
But, I think the SE is going to implement it this way:

-This could be going the way of Tactics. By where, you might need a combination of certain class levels to unlock the missions for the party base Jobs. In addition too each class itself given up a job quest by itself.

    We have :
    Gladiator
    Marauder
    Pugilist
    Conjurer
    Thaumaturge
    Archer

This upcoming update, they could release the rest of the classes they have guilds for:
    Musketeer
    Shepard
    Archanist

With the list above we have a means to unlock the FF traditional role jobs (can't wait!), via quest:

Squire, Warrior, Chemist, Paladin, Ranger, White Mage, Black Mage, Monk, Thief, Oracle,
Time Mage, Geomancer, Dragoon, Orator, Summoner, Samurai, Ninja, Beast Master, Dancer, Bard, Mime, Blue Mage, Dark Knight, Onion Knight, Red Mage, Fencer, Illusionist.

If SE is smart they will scatter some of these Job, quest, given NPC's around the world and make it fun trying to find them. Instead of having them all in each city, at each guild (boring!!)
(eg. Like a thief that's always lurking in the alley of Ul'dah and he/she whispers to you if you want to learn their trade.(when you meet the lvl. requirements).. stuff like this makes the world memorable.)

Now, the first set of Jobs, SE chooses to give us first, will be of a separate "list". Separate from the classes we used too unlock it. We will start from lvl.1 to learn this new Job role, since its new we just got it, I need to grow and learn this new role. And we will take it all the way too 50 (same as it was in FFXI, as in respect too starting from lvl1).

There is no longevity have a lvl.30 Pug. unlock Monk, and have that same Monk be lvl30 right off the bat, with a slew of new abilities we have now idea how to use. So, no! We unlocked a new job, we must get good at it, which is why I know we will start back at lvl 1. This on its own, will give us all something to strive for, and it will take a good 1-2 months to get back to 50 again. This in turn will give SE some breathing room, so not to worry about its fan base wanting things to do.

    The skills
I believe, from what the letter said, that each Job will have its own concrete set of Job unique skills, SE said there will be a few cross skills that we will be able to add to our bar, from the classes we have already leveled. But once a full party of Job come together, we are going to have that FFXI job feel again( which is a good thing for the sake of this game). A Wht mage..etc healing, Black mage..etc nuking, Paladin/Warrior..etc tanking, a Bard etc.. supporting, Red mage etc.. buffing debuffing, a Sam. Nin. Thf. Drk. etc.. dealing the most dps it can.

Throw in Cid, airships and the ability to raise our own chocobo's, to go with whatever they have planned for them. And this game is officially set to be a Winner.

No, I want the choice to Experiment on my own. I've never brought an Experiment combination with me to a Party in XI. I did bring them to special events and they always performed remarkably for the event in question.

Experimentation is how Ninja became abused yes, but the game would have never evolved and we'd be stuck with only one tank in FFXI had it not. I might not like that Ninja ended up being used as a tank but I never stopped people from doing it.

What you want to do is prevent me from doing what ever I want when it has no impact on you. And thats selfish.
