Were any of those PLDs actually good? cause i have been through many runs where the DPS go all out and healer spamming cures and the mobs never move off the pld.The thread is no more than the blind leading the blind. Use shield oath, unchain your healer who can do far more damage than any paladin.
Heck, I can pull mobs off a Shield Oath paladin with really basic AoE combos. Did I mentioned I'm a scholar? Note - I wouldn't pull mobs if I couldn't tank them, but I can - so I do. The less damage on the tank buys me that much longer to stay in DPS mode.
A basic rotation for me is a double DoT -> Bane -> Ruin II -> Energy Drain -> Ruin II -> Energy Drain.
I will melt through stuff like AK if I have a tank that understand that I do more damage than he does and will gladly DPS if I don't have to babysit.
Yes, it's part of the process I use for FC recruitment. I intentionally see how fast I can pull things off a PLD and how quickly he/she is able to regain it. Considering I can tank any mob in AK, other than a Dullahan - it's not like it causes any problems. Honestly, I can tank up to 3 mobs without losing aggro to DPS...but that's just silly to do consistently. :P
Your healer will do more damage than a paladin. There is no exception to this. I usually suggest doing this as a SCH because DPS'ing is basically mana neutral. A WHM can pump out some nice damage too, but it owns the MP bar.
If you have to spam cures on trash mob for ANY tank, that's a weak and/or bad tank.
