Now I've seen it all...someone offended for offering to help them?

in ~15 years of mmos Ive rarely seen people getting attacked for being new, most of the time when they do get some hostility is because they've been a Dbag toward the group. Most people dont mind new people, but its all in how you present yourself.

This morning, during an AK run, a Dragoon was new. When he announced it, the Bard was like "Oh my god, WHYYYYY??"

Its not a personal attack per se, but I still find it odd. EVERYONE had to be new sometime before being experienced right? You don't get to be 30 years old, before being born.

Don't forget EVERYONE is expected to have read all the guides watched all the youtube videos about every fight in the game before stepping in. So technically nobody should be new because they have already done the content in their heads.

The above sentence is what seems to be expected these days. I hate that fact. I buy games to play them. Not to learn how to beat the content before seeing it. It is like reading a spoiler sheet for a movie you are about to see.
Some people prefer the challenge of going in blind and then learning it for themselves,

Misleading title, there was no offer to help, it looks like what you said could be interpreted as them being grilled by you. Get straight to the point of "Are you new? I can give you all the tactics" and maybe you would have had a better reception.

It very well could be. I just don't understand how the game has already got to this point. Someone asks if you're new, and automatically get defensive by responding with insults and immediately leaving...without even asking why someone wants to know, or even giving people a chance to explain why they are asking.

Just because someone asks if you're new...doesn't mean they're about to attack you. Folks want to know, so you aren't blindsided by a tank that starts boss fights and you don't know what's going on. That's when people get mad. Best to speak up beforehand

true, a large part of the problem is the way the end game set up is. You need gear, the best way to get the stuff to buy the gear is 1 dungeon. People don't want to mess around. I think WoW did this best by having all heroics grant valor instead of just a few. That way if you are super new you can stick to some of the easier heroics.

Throw a smiley face in your /tell. It makes a huge difference in getting the mood of the message across. I do the same when I talk to tanks in party.

There's a lot of snarky people in the game and people keep their guard up.

so, speaking of new people. Here's one now, and im not a afraid to admit it either - this is my first mmo - more or less. I couldn't get into much of any other ones i played, so i never got to far, hence i never learned too to much. However im such a FF fan that im pushing this one hard and i am just about to turn lvl 20 archer, and im really excited and enjoying thus far. Although i can't log in right atm.. must be maintenance.
Anyway, i reading along here, and people keep using a few terms that i don't understand and was hoping someone could clear it up for me. They speak of "trash" and certain strategy in beating some bosses -- i haven't gotten there yet, obviously. And also does "wipe" mean getting your squad wiped? im assuming that's what that means. Ill continue to read on as the thread continues, but is there an index that explains some of these "terms" somewhere i can read up on? I suppose youtube should be my best friend, but i'd rather involve myself in the forums/community.

I think I would have left just knowing the guy was wearing level 30 gear. There's no way they would have been able to meet the DPS requirements for Demon Wall and my time is more valuable than to get that far just to find out either way.

Trash = non-boss monsters located inside of dungeons.
Wipe = entire group dying.

I usually get treated like crap because I "overexplain"

I explained Dzemael Darkhold's bosses to a dragoon Legacy player that had never done the dungeon before last night. Imo, this is one of the easiest dungeons in the game (that I have encountered) if your gear is in the relative area of the dungeon. The bosses are simple, and just need to be explained. As I'm explaining the All-Seeing Eye fight to him, he cuts me off and says "OOOOOOK I GOT IT". Of course he died because he didn't stay inside the Crystal Veil aura.

I just don't understand people. I get that it's hard to interpret emotion/sarcasm/what-have-you through type alone, but when I explain boss fights it is genuinely in the best interest of the group and I never use any terms that could be misconstrued as condescending or hateful. I am a person who likes the most amount of detail possible, so I offer that in my explanations.

Apparently, all he wanted to hear was "Stay in aura, kill adds and boss". Well, the aura shifts between different crystals with an on-screen prompt. Also, don't get worried if you pull a shit load of hate because of the damn-near invulnerability you have in the aura. The more one knows, the easier the fight becomes on all of us.

Am I wrong here? I can understand if someone is mad at someone else for going Leroy Jenkins on a boss fight, but getting upset over having the fight explained to you in detail? Really?

Getting answers from the horses mouth is always a viable option. I know some who prefer to ask a person rather
than a search engine.

Also I think some of you are immediately jumping the gun here. She said she was intent on helping him but he deliberately chose to ignore her advances. Being neutrally asked if
one is new to an area should not make your average
player rage.

If she raged at him after the first time then I can second his decision to leave. But was it the way she asked? I doubt it, this just sounds like a case of YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO *****! All of the party members she mentioned wanted to aid him in his first time. But rather than appreciate a rare moment via DF he chose to make a bad experience for himself and here we are now.

I also see people mentioning how language can not be read as intended sometimes. Which I agree, but in cases like this all to often I see people intrusively thinking of negative thoughts rather than thinking positive. For me it just sounds like he is to soft shelled for criticism or advice and
probably has done this to others.
