in ~15 years of mmos Ive rarely seen people getting attacked for being new, most of the time when they do get some hostility is because they've been a Dbag toward the group. Most people dont mind new people, but its all in how you present yourself. In all honesty the guy probably thought he was about to get attacked for being new. It took me a few tries into AK before I got a group that wasn't just expecting to speed run and blow through it. At one point I had a group where I told them I was new (my second attempt in, first attempt was really bad) and they all flipped out at me for being new to the instance. While your intention was good, it probably came across wrong. I also hope the toxic players disappear, then maybe the people that are new to an instance wont feel like they are going to be attacked for being new.
You dont like the way I do my job? I dont give a damn what you like, any of you.
If you are still alive and lance slinging a few years down the road,
and lucky enough to watch your family grow as you honor your oath.
Then you'll understand..
But getting old in my guild is a privilege.

Yep, a lot of times it is the new player who is hostile. I once was in AK with THREE new players at the same time. They were all badly geared with level 29 rings and and bad weapons. I knew we would not make it but I decided to give them some advice and go to the wall with them so they can see what it is like and what they need to do. I tried to be polite about their gear. I told them that they are not properly geared and we would not make past the wall but lets go there to give it a shot and learn mechanics and they all started to call me a douchebag and elitist.
I know lot of experienced player are rude too. Just yesterday I was DFing Ak and we had a pretty geared group, atleast me and the other DPS were geared so I knew we probably would have pretty quick run. Tank was new and he had a a bit problems holding hate but that migh not have been his skill but his gear. This other DPS when starts to call him the worst tank ever and calling him names. I tried to tell him to give constructive critisism but I jsut get bashing the tank. We did fine in the end and beat the dungeon in he end even though the tank angled last the boss really bad and tail whipped as a lot. I felt bad for our tank since because we had this one guy bashing him all the time :/

I usually ask if anyone's new and proceed to give them a brief explanation on the dungeon mechanics. Since I'm a tank i usually take initiative to make sure everyone is on same page, as long as party members are willing to learn and listen it's no big deal for me.
Lucky you. I see it constantly while DFing in this game; I've never seen it be this bad anywhere else, actually - which is surprising considering the game's been out a month. Or people may not attack new players per se but they just up and leave;could you blame a DPS who had sat in the queue to get there for an ungodly amount of time for not wanting to wait even more? It doesn't excuse the reaction the OP got but it does explain it.
this didn't happen to me yet, but when it does - I'll just go to the dungeon entrance and leave the instance. I can wait, despite being a DPS *I have my supply missions and leves to do too*. I heard a lot of horror stories about DF in late game, so at least spiritually, I'm prepared. *now to level my crafting to high enough level to repair my stuff myself, sigh*

This morning, during an AK run, a Dragoon was new. When he announced it, the Bard was like "Oh my god, WHYYYYY??"
Its not a personal attack per se, but I still find it odd. EVERYONE had to be new sometime before being experienced right? You don't get to be 30 years old, before being born.
Doesn't really change the fact that they're out there though, which makes it sort of a gamble to whether you encounter them and how frequently it happens. I've encountered them, and they're typically the same sort of people that leave groups immediately because of that fact or because a party comp is not the absolute best (or because they're just stupid). For example on that last part, someone leaving because there's no BLM in an Ifrit HM fight... but there is a SMN.
Personally, the majority of people I've met don't mind new players. Most of the time, we lead in with "anyone new here?" and if no answer, then we go with "it's important to know what to do for this fight that's why". It usually works out.

You are right, they do exist, but in my personal experiance its rare/uncommon and most of the time most of the time a reaction towards the new guy trowing an tantum, doesnt make it right though, but like I stated before, its all about how you present yourself, as new or experianced guy.Doesn't really change the fact that they're out there though, which makes it sort of a gamble to whether you encounter them and how frequently it happens.
