It very well could be. I just don't understand how the game has already got to this point. Someone asks if you're new, and automatically get defensive by responding with insults and immediately leaving...without even asking why someone wants to know, or even giving people a chance to explain why they are asking.

Just because someone asks if you're new...doesn't mean they're about to attack you. Folks want to know, so you aren't blindsided by a tank that starts boss fights and you don't know what's going on. That's when people get mad. Best to speak up beforehand

true, a large part of the problem is the way the end game set up is. You need gear, the best way to get the stuff to buy the gear is 1 dungeon. People don't want to mess around. I think WoW did this best by having all heroics grant valor instead of just a few. That way if you are super new you can stick to some of the easier heroics.
