    That's nice that you feel that way. Did you actually play FFXI? 99% of the time on the ships people were AFK, only the newbs and fishers were above deck. Even boarding the ships was a chore because of the waiting timesink, so you'd see people autorunning onto the pier hoping to automatically board the airship. There are plenty of other places to socialize. Only very rarely did this magical socialization you speak of took place.

    No, I'd much rather see the cutscene and be done with it.

    Also your definition of a timesink when spun into logic means you find using the bathroom a timesink, as is washing your hands after using the bathroom.

    "Even boarding the ship is a timesink"...standard airships took off 2 minutes after arriving, standard boats took off about 5 minutes after arriving, later versions took off much longer to ensure people actually get on them, you know player feedback that people were missing it. Guess what? You posting on these forums is a timesink as well - Everything by definition is a timesink, don't use it as if it's a bad thing
