You should be able to trade damaged items and just like the icons next to item for repairs and what not they should have a damaged icon so you can visually see the item is damaged without having to look at durability. Use the same icon they have not for damaged items, yellow or red shield.
Honestly majority of the time I just vendor the items because I am too lazy to look for someone to repair them to have them sit in my bazaar for awhile to sell or on retainer. I have so many items and so little bazaar slots that I just got to make a decision, keep it or scrap it.

If there is a good system to let players know they are trading/buying a damaged item then I think it would be a great improvement. I have this same problem with a lot of items in my inventory that I will not use again, but would rather not waste the time or gil to repair the items myself. Instead I have just been vendoring the items out instead of trying to trade it into the economy.

Actually, NPC'ing items creates more opportunities for the crafters. Right now, hundreds (thousands?) of items are being recycled. You rank up, repair the item, and try to sell it in your bazaar. Someone buys it and repeats the process. The result? An eventual oversaturation of the item. Can you imagine how many needles would be on the market if some people hadn't switched to the "broken = toss it/buy new one" method of (ahem) repair?Honestly majority of the time I just vendor the items because I am too lazy to look for someone to repair them to have them sit in my bazaar for awhile to sell or on retainer. Makes me think that the restrictions on trading were part of Square's plan to keep crafters busy. Currently, you need crafters to either recycle the item (repair to 100%), or to replace the item.

A "bind on equip" system is the most elegant solution to this problem. It puts equipment on the same level as consumables (almost). It might be unrealistic, but...[insert signature here].Actually, NPC'ing items creates more opportunities for the crafters. Right now, hundreds (thousands?) of items are being recycled. EDIT: But now that I think about it, not letting people trade damaged equipment is pretty freaking unrealistic too.

Yes I do have a My Little Pony sig because I'm not a complete loser who lives in his own little world, proclaiming something is stupid because I say so.

I think the whole repair system is crap and needs to be removed from the game, either that or have NPC's repair to 100%, screw the crafters they only bitch and whine anyway.
I totally support bind on equip also.
Bind on equip is a garbage idea for FFXIV, no offense but some streamline things I do not want to see added to this game and that is one of them.
