I was being facetious, but I can understand that not translating well. This is actually a pet peeve of mine. It's muchly like someone complaining about the food they get in a restaurant, and then claiming that the recipe was bad, rather than the cook, the ingredients, the final dish, or the service.
People who say this sort of thing obviously wouldn't know good writing if it bit a big chunk out of their backsides. Let alone identify the difference between "bad writing" and "I didn't like it".
I've never been in a party with a new player that wasn't completely fine letting them watch. I think the bigger problem isn't whether or not new people skip cutscenes, but that there are 12 of the frigging things in CM that you have to manually skip every single time you do it. I remember thinking my first time through "Holy hell, no wonder people get pissed...".
As a staunch supporter of watching the cutscenes, I'm going to recommend to friends to skip. This is based on my own experience.
Today I did both CM and Prae. Watching the scenes in CM wasn't bad. I didn't drag too far behind and got to participate in everything. Prae was another story. The scenes in there are many and long. I think once we got halfway there was nothing but cutscenes for me as the group was able to move through the dungeon fast enough to queue up the next scene. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a slow reader so it's probably a bit quicker for the average person. The whole back half of Prae is voice acted, though, so that slows it down too.
In the end, I didn't get to see much of Prae. Watching the cutscenes in the inn wouldn't have felt a whole lot different. What's more, the 90k boss hit me in the middle of a scene so I had to watch that one in the inn anyway. Again, I support watching and would never yell at someone for it but it didn't really work out so great for me.
I don't understand why there isn't a feature to stop the timer until everyone is out the cutscene.
Look at it from a different angle. You label most wanting speed runs, as people who complain about you watching your cut scenes. You're taking the attitude "Well it's MY first time, so I AM going to watch them." That's great and all, but not EVERYONE has time to waste an extra 20+ minutes waiting on you for all the cut scenes. Just watch them in the inn later, everyone wins.
"not everyone has time to waste" yet there they are, online wasting time in a video game. If they don't have time to waste they need to get off the computer and go handle thier business.Look at it from a different angle. Wrong. Skipping cutscene to watch from the Inn ruins the experience. I'm generally fine with first time players watching the cutscene. Let them enjoy it the proper way.Look at it from a different angle. You label most wanting speed runs, as people who complain about you watching your cut scenes. having to? Who the hell said you have to? Screw those other people, don't let anyone dictate how you play the game, especially not in the DF... they cant kick you, you wont miss the xp.. think things through next time.
You ruined your own experience....
For anyone else that thinks they HAVE to skip cutscenes, don't. Enjoy them, the ppl in DF can wait.
These are the people im talking about, do not cave to them.. Watch your shit, enjoy your game. If they want speed runs they can get a group from their server and Q for DF and STFU. Don't let people dictate what you do.Look at it from a different angle. You label most wanting speed runs, as people who complain about you watching your cut scenes.
