The PVE is pretty linear in this game in my opinion, people do it for the lore. Players like us don't care about a lore and only want a challenge and I agree fully, scripted fights are boring and facing a player that can surprise you is a lot more fun and is more engaging in every aspect.

I'm done with this game aswell until I see a glimpse of PVP. It's getting kind of boring and I'm with you on that.
It is a very bad idea to pick up a Final Fantasy game without the plans or desires to become invested in the storyline and lore.
