I like the little stories personally, thats why i have done every quest. But most people don't. Even someone like me who trys to complete -everything- in game and who was prob one of the first people to explore most of the world in open beta gets bored quickly when they have to run around for an hour to complete a quest with 3 lines of dialogue.
I'm a new player and telling you how I precieve the game... do you get it?

If people have no care on the story then they have no real reason on why they should play this game or not and shouldn't waste their time with rrpg. You clearly are not a typical rpg player. And clearly only targeting non rpg players with this thread. I'm a rpg player.

SE only implemented quests because players were complaining that levequests were too boring and repetitive and wanted stories.
The quests are no different than levequests except they have a lot more running
Some of the levequests actually have more story stuff written in them
So for the average player, this is FAR from what was desired.

If you think that the majority of people playing MMOs want to run around for an hour to learn one little thing about the lore than you really haven't played many MMOs out there.

How many quests have you actually done by the way?

I played 30 mmo including MUD which had a RP stay in character rule. Not everyone likes a cynic btw. This incluse ffxi, WoW and DCUO. If the "adverage player" has no interest in the story, then they shouoldn't complain about it.

Like i said, this thread has nothing to do with you. Its about the average player. and so far the only 2 people who have defended quests are low ranked people who aren't even capable of doing most of the quests. This thread is about the average player. And saying "well if the average player is stupid they should just get over it" isn't going to make this game successful. So please stop saying the same thing over and over again and trolling this thread.

    Speaking as the average player.
I enjoy doing the quests, they impart a large amount of lore, and give an alternative way to get started on the gear/mats for your level. Guild tasks, depending on if you in the right city for it, can be helpful for that annoying craft you want out of the way, we can use more of them.

Also, most average players aren't interested in viewing the forums, one cursory look would probably explain why.
I do see more people using lodestone blogs, on the other hand.

what quests give mats? i don't think i got -any- mats from any of the quests.... And they give almost no lore whatsoever except for a few quests related to the new stuff. Most of them are generic stories that could be randomly placed in any game.

and average player = new player. Most of the hardcore fans already got the game, so most people who will be getting the game on ps3 re-release will be average MMO players lookin for a new mmo to try out. Not avid FFXIV fans who are looking forward to the game (except for a very few who were unable to afford a comp to play the game)

What is your own player name btw? I'm curious because of your first post in the thread.

I received crystals and shards from doing sidequests, tasks and leves, all of which new players can do from the start. The forums seems to have conjured up this idea of anyone not with an axe to grind against SE would defend even Mystic Quest to the death. SE seems to think we are the average player, why else would it have a forum and polls over when we would like to see implemented first as part of their changes? How do you think the cities looked at launch? This happens with most game populations I've played.

And as far as "Generic Stories that could be randomly placed in any game" You do know that most stories in all fiction can be broken down into several related plots. I can make Armageddon sound boring. I'm not expecting Shakespeare when I see a side quest. I want Shakespeare for my main quest, and the main quest takes quite a while for the new player to go through to even this point that people voted for more stuff to do in the interim, hence side quests, hence the task boards and guilds.

The thread title refers to "new" players, not "average" players.

And Kilta said if the average player "has no interest in the story, they shouldn't complain about it". That's not the same as calling average players "stupid"- that's YOUR word. At this point, you're arguing because you dislike Kilta, and really shouldn't be berating her for losing track of the thread's topic, as you've done the same thing.
