ffxiv classes= anyone can fit any role, no wait time.

only thing has failed is the community forcing the ffxi mindset.
And yes, ffxi jobs in ffxiv will pretty much make ffxiv the same as ffxi.
I hated ffxi in how things ended up. Long waits to form a part or to join a party. Said wait taking months of playing 6 hrs a day everyday.

Sorry no thanks. I like the system just ppl need to stop force feedinbg the ffxi mindset while at the same time orduing ppl NOT to compare ffxiv to ffxi. When infact they trying ti force ffxiv to be ffxi.

Does anyone else remember not being able to solo, being stuck in whatever job/class you were playing with near zero customization, and not being able to join with others if you didn't meet certain job/class setup requirements? Don't get me wrong, I loved my time in FFXI, but I sure as hell do not miss spending the majority of my online time sitting in Jueno waiting for a WHM or a PLD to show up in party search. I don't miss being stuck in a strict, rigid role with no room for customization. FFXIV has so much more potential with creating a unique character and I think it would be a shame to do away with that in favor of a job/class system like FFXI. Just my 2 cents, please throw in yours as well.
IMO being able to customize a class/job is a great thing, but with no real role definition you don't really have viable party potential. There is no real need to party in FFXIV and a portion of that is due to no well defined roles for classes (along with the EZ mode solo content SE made). I play an MMO to play with a group of people constantly, that is why FFXI was my favorite MMO, because it forced every player to interact socially and work together. Now a days with the current MMO's like WoW the main focus is single player phasing content and with that you barley even see any other players let alone need a group of people; Hell you cant even level with a friend unless you both perfectly follow phasing patterns. I don't want to play a single player MMO i want to play a Massively Multiplayer MMO.

    I say: Why not?

Everyone does it with every new MMORPG the past handful of years, XI did a lot more right in the basics than wrong when compared to XIV, and they should have at least evolved from it rather than ignore it's resistance.

We also compare it to classic FF games, Ragnarok, WoWcraft, EVE, Monster Hunter, and just about any other game with multiplayer capabilities. There really isn't a problem with that, because it's healthy for the Dev's to learn about the traits that endear these games to us, while avoiding the faults we found in them. The Devs want our thoughts and opinions- so we need to give it in spades.

why would you expect ffxiv to be an extension of ffxi, when almost no ff has been an extension of the previous game? If ffxi is still around, why make a game just like it, thats killing your own market, would only make sense when ffxi is dead

SE has already announced that they will be making class changes, more importantly giving classes abilities that define them.

People compare FFXIV with FFXI because they're made by the same company and even started with the same producer.

And most likely this game is going to move in FFXI's direction since FFXI's original Dev team has replaced the FFXIV team.

This sandbox **** is boring and generic. The snowflake argument has completely failed its field test. We need more structure, otherwise nothing has any meaning and it's all pointless and unrewarding.

I can main heal at NMs on my 37 marauder and I would be completely bored. Again, the sanboxing snowflake model has failed. The structured role system was a superior product.

structured roles is for suckers. would this game be any better if you had no cross class skill use?

    I really dont think so.

and i really dont see any advantages to it being so, other than people not being able to do anything without a conjurer, and all the blm wanna bes mad because they have to play as a healer.

lets be honest, when we are talking about roles, you ll just turn the game into a 3 class game where one of those classes is DD and they have no special value.

most FFs by the way allowed the charchters to learn cure by the way, its not supposed to be some untouchable skill only the gods have

The sandbox is important for the MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER aspect- as the sandbox allows for the kids to play together, key word TOGETHER. Whether it be competitively, cooperatively or some mix of the two. The problem with the sandbox of XIV is that the stats and Armory are very heavily rank/level based, a linear function for a non-linear concept.
