Go into as much detail as you like but the collision still sucks and the game would be better if you could jump.CT was mainly designed as a cinematic engine and to implement seamless transitions from cutscene to gameplay.
That's severe design clashing. Starter areas = Nothing to explore via jumping. New Areas = requires jumping to fully explore. It has to be pretty universal since take the Ys games for example, almost every area in the PC games at least you need the jump or double jump ability to fully explore, not just one or two areas. The entire game has to make use of a mechanic or it would just be a design clash.
Collision sucks but jumping won't auto-solve it, as there's a "dome" over certain terrains so you can jump but you'll still hit in an invisible barrier unless they completely remove all detection.
You're right. It was a *** from the design stage to not have a proper solution, just like the rest of the game.
