The best with FFXI was atleast most of the spells abilities was useful.

I feel like doing a fast type of dynamis when i do leaves behest but much faster.

I miss the fun party play where you had diffrent skillchains every time you got in a group with diffrent tactics depending on the jobs who was joining the party.

Becouse you had choose the best WS with the people you played with.

And you had use the skills to get somewhere in FFXI.

Without a good tank or a good mage or a nice bard sometimes the adventure to get max lvl was an adventure.

You learned new things in every party you joined and new things depending on the job you played.

A new system can be good but i hope they make so you have to use more abilities on the way up in rank.

Its just a big spam hit and WS some cure now on the way to higher Rank.

We are getting some good material here, keep it up.

To keep everyone up-to-date, the best example of most spells and abilities being useful was Bard.

I also liked how they kept the elemental line of spells useful throughout the game, and did not let few spells dominate the whole game.

Not to mention elemental weapon skills, which excelled in various activities and were widely used by melee jobs.

In fact, most weapon skills were so great that it felt like every one of them had a great purpose.

For some mobs, you used Sidewinder.

To some other mobs, Sidewinder was used.

If you had enough TP, you could do Sidewinder.

Many jobs had even greater variety of skills to use in various situations. Sometimes even more than two, but that was really stretching it.

I also loved the fact that Haste was so utterly broken when stacked. Defense and VIT calculations made so much sense. Utsusemi was by no means a broken spell that decimated everything else as far as damage mitigation goes. Either 2h jobs or 1h jobs were always gimp for the longest time. And for how magic damage stood up to melee damage especially late in the game, I really have to applaud SE. Both were perfectly balanced, so much so that BLM's had the forced option to solo their way through the game because of how balanced magic damage was.

Let's not even go into pet jobs and how SE really fucked up in their implementation, aside from DRG (because wyvern was quite irrelevant as far as total damage output is concerned, unsurprisingly). And let's not forget about the famous quote. SE: "We don't know what to do with Summoner". And that is not surprising.

All in all, these little flaws aside, the combat was as good as it can get. Pretty much perfect in any imaginable way. Especially when you use these glasses made just for the purpose of recalling the awesomeness that was FFXI combat:

I remember seeing alot of your posts were actually constructive but now they are turning into attacks on opinions. Regardless of whether you find them to be an agreement or stupid, don't let the nature of these forums get to you... : /

FFXI was more successful than XIV has been so far so stop writing it off completely. The fact remains that he was right in saying most abilities were more meaningful and useful, even if theres some examples like sidewinder you used all the time.
