Best DPS class in the game?

Surprised with how many opinions and situational examples there are with close to no actual numbers. i know level ranges a good bit now as well as im sure gear comes into play, but saying monk > dragoon dps means little for balance if its like .1% higher. however if its like 200% higher then even bringing a great player as opposed to the good one, chances are the monk would be brought. some sort of numbers would be nice. if those at 50 have any free time for something standard like a 3-5 min dps test against a set level 50 dummy or somthing.

i know ill definately spend a good bit of time on the dummy when i get 50, i plan to try to iron out the damage/crit formula and the like.

I think a Bard who is not channeling a song will thrash any class.

Bards apparently get highest damage to counterbalance songs taking out 20%? Of course, Bards refuse to use the good songs with the 20% penalty.

My WHM girlfriend wishes more bards used Mana Regen song.

As a WHM myself I will smack a bard that uses mana regen song over TP regen for the other DPS.

We do have the numbers there are a few parsers out there and people are using them. I killed Garuda Hard mode last night and parsed to to see the numbers. So people have them.

I don't know about Garuda but it is not needed on Ifrit. Most WHM waste their mana like crazy because they know they have a BRD in raid.
Or you have 2 WHM and a WAR as MT

Now don't get me wrong, you still need to put it up from time to time but it does not represents a high amount of time.

TP song is not needed. DRG/BRD have self regen and tanks almost never run out of TP.

oh no, i know that. i have a parser myself. But in this thread im seeing "in my free company bards do top dps" "in mine so and so is better" but never "our bard beats the other dps by 20%. he does xxx on xxxxx boss" where someone else can come in and say "our dragoon does xxx and outdpses your bard on that same fight".

while it does seem a common trend that bards are top DPS when not using their songs, i dont want this to fall to the usual MMO "i beat all my friends so i must be the best" when all it really means is that the direct compatition is doing poorly

for instance, i regularly do 70-80 dps no limit break on bosses (level 38ish) while most summoners i see are in the 28 range, most bards in the 35-40 range, most tanks in the 30-50 range and so on. I dont think that means dragoons are the best, i think ive been usually with pugs who dont take their dps quite as seriously. so far almost no duty finder DPS ive grouped with regularly outdpses tanks on boss fights.

I did garuta without a white mage.... it was needed. Garuta is lots of AoE healing and scholars suck at that.

the friends in question he is dpsing with are hardcore raiders. the parsing is accurate to the damage the classes do

I dunno if it is a gear disparity, but it doesn't seem even remotely close. I'm deciding between Dragoon and Black Mage right now and after watching that, it's hard for me to justify playing Dragoon, regardless of how cool they look.
