Thats why I used terms like "This is how it should work" and not "This is how it will work."

The term CLASS used for FFXIV is not the same as the term JOB used in Final Fantasy XI, or any of the past Final Fantasy's. It also is not the same as Class from other MMO's.

In Final Fantasy XIV the term Job will be used to help a character define a Specific Role.

You dedicated half your post trying to force your definitions down the throats of the readers. You did not say, "this is how it should work", you did in fact say, "this is how it works".

Those are all facts though.

Classes in XIV are not the same as Classes in other MMOs. Classes in other MMO's define roles. Classes in XIV define the Weapon You Use.


Komoto and Tanaka BOTH said Classes in XIV are not the same as Jobs from previous Final Fantasy's and that they were working on a Title System to help people identify their role. That was back before XIV was even in Alpha.

I don't recall Yoshi-P saying this unless it was a poorly google translated japanese post. And who cares what Tanaka said in Alpha? Tanaka also said FFXIV will outdo WoW and will be the best MMORPG the genre has ever seen.

Cairdeas, I see where you are going with this. And technically you are probably right. However, its not the crisis you think it is. Besides you understood what I was wanting in my "AH" thread. Do you think others are so stupid that they cant understand what I mean? Besides, this happens in every MMO. People have certain things and concepts that they associate with a specific name, even if its actually from another game. Like how people want massive PvE and make references to Rift instead of Campaign from FFXI. But you still know what they are talking about, right?

I also still call the races Tarus, Mithra, Galka, Elvaan, and Humes more often than not. Is it correct? Nope. Do most people really care? Nope. Is it going to have an effect on the way the game mechanics work? Nope. At the end of the day, do you still understand me? YES. Cairdeas, for the most part you seem like a decent dude. I agree with your thoughts and ideas about half of the time. The other half, I think your one of the Moon People, because I simply can't understand you.

He was just trying to help get a mistunderstanding out of the community. If you don't like his opinion that's fine but don't make a bigger deal out of it than it is.

Cairdeas you keep ramming this idea down our throats but you ARE wrong. You said it yourself that Komoto and Tanaka both said classes are not the same as job BEFORE ALPHA. This has changed, you see the idea was your PHYSICAL level would dictate your characters toughness and what things you could fight things like that. Then the "classes" would be used to sculpt you character into whatever you wanted it to be.

For example if I was a Rank 50 Physical Level but a Rank 20 CON I could still fight R50 mobs and party with other R50 people. The point was to build your character and that was why they were weapon specialisations. Once you realise that fact you can suddenly see how everything in the armoury system would have fitted into place. Remember the story of Leeroy who would turn up to the party and as they had a tank he switched to his mage to help heal.

However they changed the system so now Class Rank is the one that matters not Physical and that is why everything is so screwed up. Yes you still have "weapon specialisations" but because they are so largely dependant on your Class Rank it does not provide anywhere near the flexibility of what was originally planned and that is why they are now basically jobs.

So while your theory WAS correct, it is no longer the case in reality as your class does pretty much define your job now.
