Every "Auction House" in the MMO industry has some form of bidding. What people are asking for doesn't. There for its not an Auction House.

AH: I need three items.

Walk up to AH Search one buy lowest costing item rinse and repeat.

Wards: Same concept

Search first item before I enter.

Buy item Run to exit search next item.

Run back to where I just came from or zone to a new ward to buy it. Rinse and Repeat.

Also hope no one buys it before me has happened a lot.

open the category (weapon,armor...)
open the sub-category (because you are to choose sword,scythe,great sword ecc)
depending the filter you choose, scroll pages to find the name you looking.
look the history to see the medium price (since isn't a real auction)
buy it. If it's the last, hope nobody buy first.

You know what it seems ? A market ward, minus the walking. How resembling.
and cmon, don't try to appear the walk a game-breaker: you don't need to find anything, the guy have a red star on the head. Walk streight until you see the star. the end.
The wards need some tweak, but thre's honestly low difference from this and ah

edit for the corruption thing: he mean it can be easly botted, so people can monopolize items and re-sell it to bigger price. Fiction ? No. It happend on FFXI. ALL THE TIME

I was thinking more like a WoW buyout system and the FFXI system where the item goes right into your inv. a Hybrid, I did not like the XI AH.

So we should stop calling what we want an auction house? But that is the most common term in MMOs for what 1/2 the population wants. I'm sorry it seems like you are just trying to prove you have far greater intellect than everyone else here at lest the English speakers. Most people know that game AH are far different than real auctions.

btw, wow's ah is similar to a real auction. People who played FFXI fail to understand it's a centralized market ward, not even resemble an auction.
Also, i personally fail to understand how the market ward are a time sink. You are really trying to tell me the procress of enter a ward and place a reainer it's SO LONG to justify the name of time sink ?

No because if they rename it it still is the pile of crap we have now. In my opinion what we have now is a slow search feature that you need to be at the exit to use and a zone fest to get a decent price. AH do the same thing but 100% better and faster without the zoning.

Grimm you can enhance the marketward to fix those issues without implementing a bidding system that can be corrupted. Most people who are against an auction house are not against the conveniences it provides just an arbitrary blind or timed bidding system.

But the way the wards are right now all they are is a very very slow version of an AH. You can see selling prices so it's very easy to low ball someone.

That has nothing to do with bidding and instead is an evolution in the economy. When a player can make an item for profit cheaper then you or is just trying to get rid of inventory then theres nothing stopping them. Thats how a free market works. The problem is that in a MMO you can't entice people to buy your product over anothers because they are all static items. a Pearl Ring is always a Pearl Ring. You can't turn your Cheap MP3 player into an iPod for instance. So people will always just buy the cheapest.

This happens in any mmo and any mmo economy. And it isn't something anyone should get upset over. If someone else can still profit off an item you are selling for more then either you need to figure out whats allowing them to sell it for so much cheaper and still be profitable to them and adapt their strategy or you need to take the loss and get rid of inventory. Right now any non-nm drop or item crafted off nm drop sold for more then 100k is over priced because of simple inflation. Which the Guild Tasks are trying to fight by forcing items out of the inventory.
