But... that's what they're doing? It's actually her? I really don't know what you mean by "archetypes"--not trying to be obtuse here, genuinely confused. Lightning isn't an 'archetype', she's a character, a leading lady of Final Fantasy XIII. That's who they're bringing into XIV. Not "a pink-haired gunblade user with a bad attitude" or something like that.

At any rate, I've been following this topic off and on since you started it, but I didn't want to come in here just to say "I agree; sign the petition!"

Ultimately, I think I will be quite fine, regardless of what actually happens. This game doesn't have to do everything right. It just has to get enough right for me to enjoy it. But we're all different people. We need to be different. Otherwise, novels would be pretty boring! Or at least, I always think of tolerance in terms of stories. He he.

Seriously, thanks for stopping by. In truth, we don't know how this will be handled in the utmost detail, cause (1) Yoshi hasn't given his long forum post yet, and (2) the content isn't actually in game yet. Well, if those two things aren't known yet, I hear some people asking, why go to all this length to stir up trouble on the forums? The answer is really because, whatever Yoshi decides to do, I'm against the idea somewhat in principle, and wanted to say as much; perhaps it might get some attention. And secondly, if and when Yoshi does post explaining what he has in mind, perhaps this thread, if it was still a civil discussion and not moderator-locked, could be the place for further discussion to happen.

But I haven't actually said this yet: I do trust Yoshi-P and the dev team, they've given us a great game and worked really hard at it. Not everyone has to be equally satisfied with every single aspect, of course, but I think it's fair to say that they've really earned a degree of trust and respect, and that FFXIV gonna be a great game regardless of this next event.

So yeah, I'm definitely not trying to ruin anyone's good time by sulking; or telling anyone what they are and aren't enjoyed to like about this game; or lying up awake at night thinking about getting struck by Lightning. *edit* see what I did there? It's just my opinion in this thread that keeping actual characters from other Final Fantasies [not shadows/archetypes/echoes, even though I'm not even sure how this would work, but people keep bringing it up so it might be possible, I am pretty dumb] out of FF14 will, in fact, (1) make 14 better for everyone [not just me] even if this isn't immediately apparent to some, and (2) not prevent plenty of references to the series that we as fans love and enjoy, done in tasteful ways.
