Fishing all day and not getting a single bite sometimes: That is fishing.I want to throw out my line, having chosen the perfect rod and bait, and wait until I feel a bite (controller vibration). Then struggle with a fish to haul it in without breaking the line.
That is fishing. If they get rid of waiting for a bite, or the struggle of landing a fish, then it isn't fishing. Fishing is relaxing because of the process... not because you go to sleep!
Communing with nature get stuffed!
The problem, and this literally just hit me, is that bots will completely corner that market. Because he's making it so dead easy to bot, whatever few fish might have some worth due to crafts will be controlled by the bots.
The second issue is that fishing will actually no longer be something we want to do. Yoshi isn't making it so that we can go fishing if we have nothing to do, he's making it so that fishing will ONLY be something you can do when you have nothing to do. In 1.0's system, you had to pay attention and actually fish. Because of that small amount of interaction, and because I have a high threshold for repetitive tedium, I could fish for hours and hours. My longest sessions usually hit the 15 or 16 hour mark.
With this new system, that won't be doable because we won't be doing anything. We'll choose our bait and rod and location, but then we'll choose cast and wait. I'm sure the amount of time spent waiting will be randomized, and once the game decides that you will receive a fish, you get the fish. Then you repeat. And that's assuming the game won't do like it did before, where at random you'd get no bite. If they left in no bites, and you have absolutely zero control over it, then Yoshi will have well and truly killed fishing for people who actually want to fish. My idea of fun isn't sitting in front of my screen and waiting for the game to maybe let me have a fish so that I can then continue staring at the screen, hands completely free of the keyboard. If I wanted that I'd just make a screensaver showing that. I require at least some interaction beyond choosing my bait. The only people who will want to fish will be those who, like Yoshi said, want to do other things but can't at that moment.
With that realisation, the chances of me quitting over this have risen exponentially.
I wasn't being condescending at all, I was asking a legitimate question.
Of course I'll wait to try it, but when his prime example of fishing is something to do while you're waiting in line for a raid is telling to say the least."Clearly stating" that fishing will be less about button-mashing does not necessarily equate to lack of involvement, and because that's all that's really been revealed, it could just as easily work out that you've got a more intuitive, concise gathering mechanic than simply "press Enter five times to mine fish". We won't actually know until we get to see it/try it ourselves. Once that time comes, critiques for or against the new system would have a lot more ground to stand on than what everyone's basing assumptions right now.
I don't think I will, I'm glad I got the class to 50 while it was somewhat fun and engadgeing.
Oh don't worry, bots won't be involved because they will have absolutely nothing of value to bot for! Isn't it genius? <3
Here's an idea. Next time you come into a topic.
Say something on topic, instead of looking for someone to instigate.
Which is what you did in here.
Came in, found someone to talk trash to and left, saying nothing on topic..
Regardless and ON TOPIC...
Fishing imo should have something interactive.
I mean if you're not jiggling the line, you're not fishing..
Well I guess there could be different kinds of fishing, where you don't jiggle.
That would be cool also.
Maybe make different kinds of fishing.
Like deep sea, fly and.. idk.
How many other kinds of fishing are there?
Could have slightly different interfaces.
Might make fishing a bit more fun..
I'm sure there will be more to it than just sitting there though.

Page 1. Post #6. You even quoted it yourself.
Thanks for playing.
Probably unrelated to your point, but I agree with him.
Pressing buttons can be very stressful...
Responding to OP: most people didnt even play or try that hard to level fisher allot got to the 30ish mark and slowed down,
so i prefer the way Yoshi-P is going to make it , and yes if youre a level 50 fisher youll only be fishing for maps or to pass time, or to get fish, instead of it feeling like its too much of a hassle, just my personal opinion

If you feel it's too much of a hassle, don't do it. Some of us actually enjoyed fishing and got it to 50. Some of us have luminary rods that we spent a lot of time getting. Instead of trying to make a gathering, non-combat class appealing to the combat crowd, they should have actually made it worth putting time into. At this rate I don't know why he doesn't just remove it as a class.Responding to OP: most people didnt even play or try that hard to level fisher allot got to the 30ish mark and slowed down,

Come to think of it, the fishers in XI are treated better than this, and fishing there isn't even a class. That's pathetic.
