Me being from the EU, I expected an EU datacenter but reading those news, in the end it doesn't really grind my gears. I played a few other games which were located in the US and I never had the feeling that I was having huge ping issues, except when I entered pretty crowded places (mostly cities).
Actually I hope some NA people will find their way over to Sargatanas or Ragnarok (depends on my LS) so we still have a nice mix of nationalities ^^
P.S: In 1.0 I thought it was hard to team up with JP people but that was mostly caused by the timezone and the language was only the second reason for that. I remember doing the pilgrimage quest with JP peeps and it was cool, but since I didn't understand what they were writing I had the feeling they were making fun of me xD" Maybe I was just paranoid because of all the funny emotes but in the end they helped me a lot! ^^
These are the addresses some people are using for ping testing in the Beta forums.
square-enix.montreal.com / 184.107.107.176
eu.square-enix.com / 209.130.141.243
jp.square-enix.com / 202.67.53.202
So far all of the European players are getting in the mid 100s for montreal and mid 200s for japan. I have not seen anyone on the Oceanic area post any results.

Odd, the Montreal IP you listed is just timing out for me. I'm in Idaho. These are the addresses some people are using for ping testing in the Beta forums.

Here you go!
From: Brisbane, Australia
JP: ~215ms
NA: ~240ms
EU: ~310ms
Some people in Oceania have been getting lower ping then myself on the JP servers, however my ISP pings to JP fairly high (even though it is the most popular ISP in AU). I must be getting routed through somewhere.
Other people on my ISP (Telstra) have reported similar ping.
there seems to be more commands then just tracert and ping for doing these latency tests. I'm trying out pathping right now and there is also one called mtr
pathping takes a while to finish cause it computes statistics
Nocturne of the Gods
Kiu mondo estis nomita Vana'diel. Nia mondo, Vana'diel.

Can you guys tell me how to take those IP addresses and test my ping?
I got 67 ping by just selecting a random Montreal IP off of Speedtest.net.
Btw, I'm in Florida.
Start -> All Programs - > Accessories -> Command Prompt
In the window that comes up type
ping 184.107.107.176
then hit enter
