I feel I have to disagree.
My MMO career includes FFXI, FFXIV, WoW, Warhammer Online, Aion and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Out of these games, the only ones that didn't have RP servers were the Final Fantasy MMOs and Aion.
Not sure if this is a cultural difference? The eastern-based MMOs didn't have RP servers, but the western ones I played all did. If FFXIV wants to include many of the standard practices of other AAA MMOs, then a RP server will be expected.
World of Warcraft has 226 U.S. servers. 23 of those are officially designated RP servers (17 are RP-PvE servers and 6 are RP-PvP servers).

A week ago it was about no free trial which we found out in the end(still going apparently) we get two weeks. Now it's about RP servers for those of you who are into that. It just never ends does it?
It's not about entitlement or free promotions. Yoshida confirmed over a year ago that there would be a roleplay server. Now that the server list has been released and talk of server transfer applications are in the air, people will want to start planning where to go. Knowing which server will be the designated RP server at this stage is crucial for the RP community, as well as players who just like playing with that community or people who want to stay with their friends.
If this information is released later rather than sooner, it could cause some unnecessary upheaval and separation of the RP community.

Considering that you brought up Second Life, and you're now comparing apples to oranges, you don't even know what you're talking about, so why are you here again?

Whatever. What's it going to be tomorrow or next week? You miss my point.

According to the Blog, the server names Fern mentioned there are the "Beta 3 World names". The Data Center Post on Lodestone mentions that Sargatanas, Balmung, Hyperion, Excalibur and Ragnarok will be moved from the Data center in Japan to the NA/EU Data centers. The Data Center transfer will be performed at the start of the 4th Beta.I remember we were told that the team was going to implement a roleplay (RP) server.
Unfortunately I see nothing of the sort in the newly published server list. Does that mean we can forget about it?
If instead there's something in store, knowing before server transfers will be enacted may be a good idea, even if I'm not holding my breath about it.
Up until now, none of the servers have been classified as an official dedicated Roleplay server and it was up to the players to decide which server which server they would use for Roleplaying.
Bayohne's post you've quoted in your original post mentioned the following:
However, Yoshida did tell us "I also like roleplaying, so with the launch of version 2.0 we'll prepare a roleplay server."
So, right now the server list which has been announced so far is bound to be expanded with more servers for the actual launch. And if i were to go by Bayohne's post, we should be seeing a dedicated roleplaying server by then.
Credit goes to Niqo'te for her fabulous art in the "Nique's happy fun time!"-thread and Nix/Capa for the Caitlyn drawing to the right. \(^_^ )/
Give her your support by liking their art!
SWTOR had a RP server? Dont see how since they had to merge all their servers into a few because the population on every server dropped drastically.
Either way, with no guarantee that the game is going to have a massive client base, they should probably wait a few months before thinking about making a RP server.
