Scholar (学者, Gakusha?) is a recurring Job in the Final Fantasy series. Experts in the theory of warfare, Scholars provide battlefield support and wear academic robes with mortar boards.

Like Red Mages, Scholars have access to both White and Black Magic, but with a far greater range of spells from which to choose -- and often automatic access to sensory magic. The trade-off is a lack of offensive ability; unlike Red Mages, Scholars may not wield swords or daggers, and instead go into battle armed with books or grimoires

That does fit the picture at all :P

Okay all that said, how does THAT mage fit into THIS game? What is it's base class? What are it's subclasses? How does SCH not function like a CNJ...a class already in game? What special abilities would they have that would make a party want to recruit them over the mages already in game?

Yeah.. I know. You totally missed my point. Foxclon made sure to say THIS particular armor was "unique looking". All of them were unique looking.. Why did he choose to focus attenton on this one? That was my point which flew over your head. Anyway..


A lot of nay-saying going on in here. I think most it is just for the sake of arguing. I think it's a Scholar, but if I'm wrong, and everyone else who thinks the same thing, then oh well.

Because lots of people think it's for Viera, even though Yoshi has specifically said that he's not going to add it because the male Viera would be difficult and not look right for the race.

Instead of being rude about it, why not answer the actual questions? You are taking one image from concept art and your knowledge that an old game in the same series had a character who looked similar and therefore they MUST be the same. But you are ignoring the whole 'how it worked' in that game thing. Conjurer IS basically a Scholar type of class per your definition:

So again, How does that job you described fit into THIS game.


Could Scholar be a new Job. Sure it could. But how would it work in this game now? Because if you can't explain that, then your conjecture loses a lot of footing.


Also, Arcanist could be another name for a Scholarly-type model. Which is why you see the 'mortar board' It's just there to show off the New Class/Job for ARR.
