I am quite certain that Yoshi & team are expecting to get feedback on what people like and dislike about the ARR Beta...that's what Betas are for.

I am also quite certain that many of us here on these very forums (well the Beta forums anyway) will be providing some positive feedback but will also complain about some aspects of the game that we feel need more polish or even need to be abolished (like the 3 click quest turn-ins, for example).

The Beta Forums will be very "interesting" if these are the types of reactions any criticisms receive. I still laugh when I go back and read some of the early 1.0 critiques on these forums and how people like myself were told to "GTFO", "maybe this game is not for you", "go play WoW", etc.

I haven't said much on these forums in the last few months but once I start Beta you can bet your last gil that I'm gonna complain about things I don't like and give suggestions for improvement (or I'll just give a "Like" to someone who says it 1st or better).

Have fun with Beta, See ya on the Forums and/or in the Beta and don't forget to give some feedback whether it is positive or negative...that's what betas are for.

No, she writes a preview based on only a handful of negative and very minor nags on elements that are normally iterated a million times before a release.

That's not what a preview is. Previews are supposed to set the general picture, instead of hammer on the minor negatives while leaving the general picture almost completely out.

On top of it she comes out as objectively incompetent on several points and she uses a rather large load of terminology and expressions that belong to forum flames and not to a balanced and professional article. Let's not even get into the open (and unjustified) mockery of the game's title, that is the worst of the worst of forum-based flamebait.

The tone of the article is openly unprofessional, and its focus simply doesn't pertain to what the article is. As such criticism of the article is entirely justified. As an editor, if someone came to me with a preview like that for ANY game, I'd kick him back to the drawing board immediately with a severe reprimand and a lecture on professionality. If you can't make a point, even if negative, without hyperbole and mockery you don't belong writing professionally.

Nope, the learning experience would be on how you actually write a preview and on how you express your points in a balanced way without falling into forum-like flamebait and into basing your expression of a game on another that has very little in common with it.

Also, for a critic it's a very useful learning experience to be on the receiving end of harsh criticism for once, as it gives you perspective and a good lesson on the value of balance and avoiding hyperbole and sensationalism.

But yeah, an unprofessional writer unable to take criticism in stride and learn from it would only take the "this community can't take criticism!" message. In this case she'd be beyond help.

But of course with your usual biased negativity, there was no doubt you'd be all over this "article" and defending it.

Most cant take criticism well, Im sure even you. But if you give a game to a 5 year old who isnt very good at games then take his opinion seriously its your own fault. The writer looks like they can hardly follow a straight line. You join low lvl content as a high lvl and complain about a lack of reward? You have no idea where to go when the quest markers are basically holding your hand? Lets get someone who can function in game before we have them write reviews.

Reviewers are just glorified hecklers, players who want more attention then they deserve and most reviews I read are completely biased because said reviewer IS NOT the target audience. Lets get some call of duty fanboys in here to review the latest MMOs shall we? then get mad at what they think.

Mind you. There are still a lot of game journalists and writers that hold themselves to a standard of quality and integrity. Not everyone's bad.

Is it unthinkable that the game may truly be in a poor state? idk..
FFXI was boring.. These are the devs from FFXI...
If they don't bring anything new to the table, this will just be FFXI part 2...

We need to stop with the "knights of Camelot" feel and get back to what final fantasy is...

Having a negative opinion about a game is perfectly fine, There will be alot of people who hate XIV ARR at launch no matter what SE does.

The problem with this article is 3 fold:

1) Ridiculously biased. Impossible to get away from 100% but I mean they litteraly called everything the devs done half ass. Shows alot of immaturity, it hoenstly sounds like something a forum troll on here would write.

2) Horribly inaccurate information. GW2 invented dynamic events, Bahamut was copied from other games "refering to WoW I belive". Again sounds like someone who came into the genre at GW2 and knows nothing of backstory from the whole Rpg and MMO genre.

3) THE STUPID ARTICLE COULD OF BEEN WRITTEN BY ANYONE WHO YOUTUBED XIV. This is a person at the media event, was given loads of information. And the article I could of written 2 months ago and made it 5-6xs as informative as that one. Seriously it covered like 5% of what was given to them. All the positives were ignored.

From reading that article with no prior knowledge to the game a reader will think this: IT is based around FATE which is not as good as GW2 which it blatantly stole from, the map sucks, character creater is ok. Oh and the story is a cliche half ass peice of crap (more or less the authors exact words).

The article is completely unfair to someone trying to get an idea about the game. It was almost an add for GW2 in the middle of it.

That person is no reporter, that person is a worthless forum troll who for some reason was let into the media thing.

Seriously, get over yourselves.

The article poses serious concerns and valid remarks;

1) What's new? Does FFXIV pose anything new to the MMO genre? Does it have to?
------A: No. Nothing is "new" persay, and I don't think it has to reinvent the wheel. Plenty of people (myself included) will play simply if the game is a "standard MMO" based in Final Fantasy worlds/lore.

2) Why does that horrible "insert quest item to trade" mechanic exist?
------A: Yoshi confirmed in one of the latest interviews that it was meant to get people to slow down and think about what they were doing. I too think this is an obtuse mechanic in generic kill quests -- but in story quests I understand the purpose. I get where the developers wanted to make people think about it, but I also come from a realist point of view where it is incredibly obtuse.

3) The article continues to praise the character creator, which we know was god awful in 1.0, and continues by stating that the writer wants to CONTINUE PLAYING -- with less trouble.

What you should get from this article is that XIV is NOT TRYING TO REINVENT THE WHEEL, if you think it will, you're in for a rude awakening.

You need to seriously get over yourself.

If all you derived from that poorly written and totally biased lump of text (its not even an article, its garbage) were those 3 things you stated, then you clearly have an issue with reading comprehension.

First, her BS crapshoot on bahamut tells me she has never played any other FF game in her life. Also, her always quoting GW2 tells me that is the only game she really has played. GW2 is half-assed and copying the same stuff she puts down from OTHER MMO's. I mean really? You dont know that?? lol

FATE or wtf ever GW2 calls their events came from rift (i'd actually say rifts derived from aion but thats another story) The go here, kill this, come back. GW2 has it, Rift has it, Aion has it, EQ2 has it, WoW has it, and also GW1.... need I go on?

Do you want ARR to reinvent the wheel?? I thought we all wanted ARR to reinvent FFXIV? Thats why we are here yea?

Also, is it so horrible for you to read wtf the quest guy is sayig and turn stuff in?? Let me guess, you're one of those who try to mash through as fast as you can without paying any mind to what is actually happening?? Nailed it!

One more thing, the map is extremely easy to understand, the fact she couldnt figure it out only further exemplifies her stupidity.
