Yes, I am currently disappoint. I will give it a try, but from the sounds of it, it seems.... uninteresting.

I posted in the other thread too but I'll post here as well.
This is not a good answer. Not because we are going to throw an entitled fit, but because we are simply asking for information. And honestly, most of the answers in this letter were very vague. The problem here is that we have been told to expect 'big changes' to fishing for quite a while, and they have 'kept us on the hook' [eh? eh?Q10: How will fishing work in FFXIV: A Realm Reborn?

A10: It's probably best if you actually experience it in-game, so let me just go over the broad concept. In ARR, you will first need to walk near a water spot, select a fishing pole that matches the type of water, and then select the bait. There will be no actions during the fishing process. Instead, we will be providing a variety of fish-types depending on the area.] for far too long without any real payoff.
What we want *most of all* are details with your plans for the system. Maybe not all people will be satisfied with the answer, and we can then discuss those details. But right now you have all us fishers jumping at shadows because we don't know how to read these vague insinuations.
If you just want to stick with the 'broad concept', then tell us this at least: are fishers still connected with the economy at all? With Massively's info and the info you provided in the letter, are we going to be able to make any money at all for our labor in leveling this job?
I can understand if perhaps you feel that the fast-paced nature of botany and mining don't fit the patience and quiet intensity required of fishing. I actually agree with you--without suggesting that fishing should require no input whatsoever (horrible idea). However, everyone in threads like this is worried that a class that they took the time to level is becoming obsolete in the game and its economy, and instead being turned into a trivial distraction to pass time while chatting. If ANY more light could be shed on this, confirming it one way or another, you would at least end a lot of desperate speculation.
Please don't tell us we all wasted our time leveling Fisher.

i wouldn't mind an XI like fishing mini game. you could mix it up a bit with line tension(based on Rod, Giving it more purpose). best part of any fishing minigame is having the fish struggle to get away.
im not down with the "you caught me, bro" fishing style minigame.

This. It's what I wanted to say, but my rage blinded me and made me type... not this. Thanks Fatestorm.I posted in the other thread too but I'll post here as well.

Aww.. I was hoping earlier interviews saying the game got a deeper mini game.
If it really is a sit and watch where even botanist and miner have more skill involved.. I seriously hope the reps convey our disappointment in this decision. Like.. great disappointment.
Still hoping for misinterpretation of what he is saying though.
Fishing in ARR:

Think the decision to do this was prolly more about how random the results of a mini game approach were/would be in regards to the fishes being yielded. I remember trying to fish up certain fish in 1.0 to level my alchemy or cooking and getting jack even though i was using the "correct" bait etc lol. Guess the "fishing" nerf is namely due to its tie to main crafting jobs, otherwise if it was secondary jobs like it is in games like wow, then maybe they could a left it as a random mini game.
I agree that getting my fishing to level 50 was a monumental pain in my ass, and feel kinda bad about the "time lost" like some of you, but the fact that a wasted time sentiment is even implied shows me how bad fishing as it was in 1/0 really was.
As far as what was said, I namely just read it as its like the other 2 gathering jobs without the "combo" style gathering, but well have to wait and see.

Baits where broken when they rearranged the nodes, all you needed was worms and the proper level fishing pole and you could catch anything. before that, you needed certain types of bait to catch some fish.Think the decision to do this was prolly more about how random the results of a mini game approach were/would be in regards to the fishes being yielded. I was not a fan of the random nature of fishing, or any gathering in 1.0 either. But, making it nothing more than point, click and wait makes it more of a chore than anything. If you are going to do that, just make it a skill everyone can use rather than calling it a seperate class.
