Baits where broken when they rearranged the nodes, all you needed was worms and the proper level fishing pole and you could catch anything. before that, you needed certain types of bait to catch some fish.Think the decision to do this was prolly more about how random the results of a mini game approach were/would be in regards to the fishes being yielded. I remember trying to fish up certain fish in 1.0 to level my alchemy or cooking and getting jack even though i was using the "correct" bait etc lol. Guess the "fishing" nerf is namely due to its tie to main crafting jobs, otherwise if it was secondary jobs like it is in games like wow, then maybe they could a left it as a random mini game.
I agree that getting my fishing to level 50 was a monumental pain in my ass, and feel kinda bad about the "time lost" like some of you, but the fact that a wasted time sentiment is even implied shows me how bad fishing as it was in 1/0 really was.
As far as what was said, I namely just read it as its like the other 2 gathering jobs without the "combo" style gathering, but well have to wait and see.
I was not a fan of the random nature of fishing, or any gathering in 1.0 either. But, making it nothing more than point, click and wait makes it more of a chore than anything. If you are going to do that, just make it a skill everyone can use rather than calling it a seperate class.

Heh, I remember so many of us repeating the "Wait and see" line to many of the questions being raised during the 1.0 beta. Myself included. We don't know what they have planned for the AH! We are only seeing the three starter areas, they haven't put in the landscape variety yet! We don't know what they mean by fatigue! Wait and see!I really cant wrap my my mind around, how fishing is such an important aspect to the game, for some...
We don't even know how fishing is gonna work, so why should we complain about it now?
There's not gonna be any fishing vids from beta, since there's no fisher guild in Gridania. So unless devs release some video from their version, showing how it works, you'll just have to wait and see.
I really hope we don't do that again. I have faith in Yoshi-P but that means I have faith that he will listen to our concerns rather than do what his predecessors did. Which is ignore everything and say Wait and see!
This is why this noise is important, but it's more important that we keep it civil, which I think we've managed to. A lot of the posts in here expressing concern over this news are well written. I'm hoping that that helps us be noticed.Heh, I remember so many of us repeating the "Wait and see" line to many of the questions being raised during the 1.0 beta. Myself included. I wasn't a fan of fishing in 1.0 because I found it boring. It actually put me to sleep. But I expected they were going to fix fishing not make it even more boring.
So I hope we are just misunderstanding what he means.
Also, I feel compelled to mention that fishing was not random like some here have said. If you knew what you were doing you could almost always get the exact fish you were looking for on every cast.
Indeed - and the only way you could ever make any money because 99% of the fish sold for less then how much it cost to buy the bait. Targeting good alchemy/cooking synths and GC donation fish was where the money was at (that and crystals).I wasn't a fan of fishing in 1.0 because I found it boring. It actually put me to sleep. I wouldn't mind a delay in the release of the class if it means our fisher will have a more exciting or at least fair economical power - if we are understanding the scenario correctly please pass the message to Yoshida Reps, if not.. heheheheheh its the forums lol
I was just thinking this. I'd be fully willing to take a delay on fishing if it meant we'd get meaningful content. And yeah, targeting certain fish was a must by the end. I sold a lot of navigator's ears near the end, in hopes of saving up enough for a nice little house somewhere in Limsa.Indeed - and the only way you could ever make any money because 99% of the fish sold for less then how much it cost to buy the bait. I agree with this. I could fish up anything I wanted, as long as you knew what you were doing.
Agreed, it took a bit of research but I NEVER had trouble going out and catching things. Right bait, right lure, right spot! That preparation in itself was kinda fun too~
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
