I think we're all just tired of holding our breath for what generally turns out to be nothing. And it's hard to trust SE is working on meaningful content when they have given us no basis for that trust.

Nobody is asking for false promises, just for direction. They say they are looking at battle system. How? Why? What do they see as problems and what do they see as solutions? They can give out ideas without giving out promises.

They say they are looking at battle system. How? Why? What do they see as problems and what do they see as solutions?
    Examination of an auto-attack feature
    Revisions to enmity algorithms
Adjustments to positioning algorithms of enemies in relation to PCs
Adjustments to ranged attack algorithms of enemies
Revision of crowd control actions for each class to improve party-based play
Introduction of enemy group variability, as well as enemy group highlighting to enhance combat visibility
Examination and implementation of changes to claiming and engaging enemies
Changes to enemy attributes and drops
Release of beast tribe monsters as both roaming and quest-related enemies
Risk analysis of collision detection adjustments to improve movement response
    Examination of free-ranging enemy distribution;
*Changes aimed at clearly defined territories and secure travel routes
    Release of notorious monsters
Conversion of roaming monsters to notorious monsters

What do they see as problems? The claiming system, for one. The lack of proper usage of crowd-control actions, for second. The lack of enemy group variability and the lack of roaming and free-ranging monsters as well. Collision detection. The lack of notorious monsters, both roaming and stationary. Algorithms concerning ranged attacks of monsters as well as their relation to PC's and enmity. Enemy attributes (and player attributes).

You just want more, more, more. More, more, more. They give you another list, not enough. More more more.

Yeah... if you think they can't spoil us with concepts that never come to fruition, you're wrong!

There's a reason why specs and costs need to be decided and implementation to have been going for a good while before they can be sure that the features are going to work as intended and thus they can tell us about it.
I mean when you say it like that yeah, I totally forgot about the unimplemented crap. I just mean the public companies lets say, the quests give us a little history behind them, but I'd just like a little more information on how the public companies work, if they don't have the information I'm cool with "we're going over ideas", I guess I'd just like some info, but lately they've been planning things around this battle adjustment, and its kinda giving me an idea of a timeline and I feel a little safer. I'll never delete my character, and I won't give up on this game, but some people aren't like that, they're gonna need to feel like its safe to go back to XIV eventually without fear of absolute boredom. I'd like to see servers repopulate again, stuff like that. A teensy bit more transparency gives people hope.

ok, lemme get this straight, in 11 people were saying they werent being transparent (which they werent) now we get frequent letters from Yoshi-P and tell us what there planning and they still arent being transparent.

They are telling us everything we need to know, and asking for feedback on it on the forum yes we dont know exactly what there gonna do, but who said they do while there wanting feedback on the idea of changing somthing.

The only thing in that list which tells me anything about how combat will wok is the addition of auto-attack, and that's not exactly a huge starting point for discussion, and one already beaten to death anyway.

I don't really mean transparent I guess, I mean thats true FFXI is only transparent now with the FFXI official forums which are a joke, I mean they don't always have to be vague about what they do, tell us when you don't have an idea set in stone I think we'll appreciate, it doesn't come across weak, it comes across as trying.

The reason they say things like "changes to abilities to enhance class uniquness" is probably to give us the opertunity mto discuss what we would and wouldnt want so they can look at that information, compare it to what they have planned so they can come make somthing that will satisfy the playerbase and keep inline with thier visions.

They cannot possibly do more except say "this is what we will do" which will mean the playerbase has no say.

As i said they are giving us the opertunity to give our views on where the game should go rather than tell us what they are doing so we have no say.

I know what you're saying, but I think in the end the results are what matter. The wait sucks but if the results are good, it will make up for the wait, and if the results are bad, being more transparent won't fix the situation, it may even be detrimental to the situation as in my previous example.

Well, if you are using your own definition of what "combat" is I don't think SE is entitled to answer that. Claiming system is quite obviously a part of the combat system. Everything in that list is, although few things relate more to the content rather than the system changes.

If they were just changing claiming and system-related stuff, and then throwing in auto-attack on top of all that, we should have the new and "improved" combat system by now. They obviously intend to change combat on a grander scale, rather than simply rearranging a few variables and adding in different claiming rules.
