Of course they always work with the assumption that they can achieve what they intend.. there's no plan B before there is a need for plan B, and there's no need for plan B before they come across a problem they can not solve with plan A. It's hard to predict what that problem could be, and if they could do that it would have been noted and solved in the original plan already.

Realistically speaking, they don't know what the end result ends up being either. They have their concepts and they are most likely expecting problems to arise, but we don't need to be a part of that process. We want to hear good news, that's only natural. If their concepts end up translating to practice perfectly, that's remarkable, but not likely at all. Do we need to know that their plans have failed and huge problems have arisen? That's not what you're asking for now, is it? But if you want plan A and plan B, you want to know about the setbacks just as well.

I don't think that would be good PR that the masses would approve of, even if the level of transparency would be remarkable.

Well, I did find a little nugget of insight from SE, regarding the level of transparency you are asking for

Okay, let's be honest. Companies and Combat probably aren't going to be anything revolutionary, the first being nothing more than quests, and the second involving some rendition of auto-attack. So it's likely that whatever they intend for either system is pretty achievable anyway. Which is relevant because whatever they say will not lead to bitter disappointment on our part, unless of course someone at SE really screws things up royally. It's not like they're striving for Guild Wars 2 questing or TERA's combat system. Whatever vague comment they make regarding either system will probably be close enough to the truth, given what we know already.

And shouldn't they give us some kind of direction, however vague, so that we have room for discussion, since that is what this forum is all about? Also, shouldn't we know vaguely about where the game is heading so we can either stop altogether or, to the contrary, have renewed faith?

I think Yoshi-p intended to get our brains turning over the use of the word job system. It should make us think of FFXI and FFT.

Achievable in few months? This is a core game design change, what is likely is that their concepts are way off the actual implementation of said systems. It doesn't even have to be that large of a change for them to be working 24/7 in their office for months to meet the deadline. These games are developed for years, they have 6 months at best.

If they want us to discuss something, they will tell us enough to be able to discuss it. They don't want feedback on everything, only select things.

It's their duty to make the core feature work. If they can't do that, we are not here to fix their shortcomings. Then they will fail, and they deserve to fail. We can pinpoint the issues we see within the system they present to us, but we are not here to make the system for them.

Also, shouldn't we know vaguely about where the game is heading so we can either stop altogether or, to the contrary, have renewed faith?
It's up to them, and up to us. They can tell us more, or they can simply not tell us anything. You can stop, or you can keep coming back. I don't think you are going to leave regardless of whether they tell us more or not, so as far as you're concerned they are doing fine.

Well at this point it wouldn't hurt them to inspire us either.
