I think those who look at the environment are fewer then I expected but thanks for joining the club of people not -always- staring at miqo assUhm so what are you looking at when doing random stuff? miq ears/ass?
There's really no reason not to look at the environment, when running from one place to another.
And obviously the reason you're not looking at the grass, is cause it's uglyif it was beautiful, you'd also look at i more often; So why are you complaining about something that would make the game look better?
And i can turn your argument against you and say, if you like crafting, maybe games isn't for you, maybe you should become a designer in real life instead?
and Altena, first there is a huge difference between 1.0 and 2.0 - and Yoshida and his team should be applauded for that indeed. But just because there is a difference doesn't mean you cant look forward further. There is NO such thing as "oh well we improved once, we used our one time token - no more improvements guys".
Speaking of that 2.0 runs smoother then 1.0 at a better quality*, so they have more room to be crazy as well - and it is in their best interest to future proof this game not only for grass but for all elements (grass just happens to catch my attention right now as every time I swivel the camera and I see speckling and shimmering from all the pixelated grass on screen).
*(for the most part, some textures seems to be lowered but I dont see why they cant bring it back in an hyper setting)
Of course you cant expect them to do that all at release, and I dont - I've said that many times. All I want to know is if it is in their plan to update things as they go a long. Like add a higher res model of grass that is smoother, and if they dont have one lying around because the went straight to that res (very unlikely) then add a post process filter just for grass. For that I have hope because we have a DX10/11 patch coming out titled "graphical milestone" - I'm just trying to push a graphic boost on grass in that patch as well.
Also there is no rule I have to compare FFXIV to FFXIV (that is nonsensical, no one could compare anything to but itself - which means most comparisons would become false, which they are not). If I want to example awkwardly shaped physics breast I'll obviously not pick FFXIV to do it, even if I wanted it in FFXIV - I'd pick some korean mmo.. lol (I dont want this, just an example). As an aside to that though there will be a tiny bit of physics to female chests in 2.0 :P

I assume they had to keep the graphics bad for PS3 reasons, and don't have enough time (or are too lazy) to make separate assets for PC.
Well that is a fear some players have, but the good news is that they do at least intend to support DX10/11 - which may come with some features usually associated to them (though not limited to - that and better performance).
They said that up close objects on the ps3 will be just like that of the PC but they are using a lot of tricks to make sure the ps3 can run (so things like heavy use of LOD).
Last I remember they are aiming for 10-11 GB of storage, and I don't remember them saying if the PC is any different. They may be trying to impress everyone with how close they can get the PS3 to PC (increasing their PS3 sales), but I hope after all that is done they let the PC do what it can do (which is honestly any recent "gaming" PC can destroy the PS3).
Or alternately no one actually cared about the stinking grass and were jumping on that weeks bandwagon.

You know what bothers me more about the grass, its not how pixilated it looks, its how it doesn't react to anything. I would much rather they put efforts into making the grass at least slightly react to someone running through it or rubbing up against a bush. Collision detection. Have yet to see a single thread complaining about that. Who cares if it looks good, I would rather have no grass instead of ghost grass. I'm afraid of ghosts...

I'd love to see that too. There are some very simple techniques to get grass to bend when you are around it (its just a warp image effect). But a physics would be better (the warp effect while easy does look a bit "Indie".. lol). Would be amazing to see someone casting some kind of imploding spell all the grass leans in and then explodes and it all just gets blown hard back like a helicopter trying to land.
Or when the strong gust of wind whistles through the trees you can see the grass and limbs lean the way... That would be pretty cool.
(Grass and leaves already move, they just have no response to interaction).
I'd rather they fix the boring combat than the grass. It looks fine once you play IMO.
IMO it doesnt.
Also boring combat isnt the graphic departments job - its not like they cant do both at the same time (or that they have to do it now before release, just hold off on it till they have a graphic milestone that they already have planned).
