I think a significant portion of FF fans were introduced to the series with FFVII, hence it's their natural favourite (my first was FFIV though, and I voted for FFVI as my favourite ).

Also I suspect DRG's popularity stems equally from Kain Highwind's coolness and the fact DRG gets a wyvern pet in FFXI. My favourite job is WHM though, so I voted for that.
