There would be no need for NDA, if they explained exactly how the game worked in all those regards
The direction change of the game is the reason some people are very skeptical currently. Yoshida did great with the remainder of 1.0, but certain people do not like the "standard" MMO. That's why some people play FFXI/FFXIV because they didn't fit into those categories. Now if they don't like it they have to deal with it, or quit and go to another MMO. Problem is there aren't many if any at all to go to.

The problem is, if Yoshi only appeals to those who stayed and FFXI veterans, then the game will flop. It already has. Like my above cake analogy, People want chocolate cake, Vanilla is the most popular and "safe" so Yoshi is trying to make a Marble cake. The only problem is with people perception, all some people hear is there is going to be vanilla in the cake and then they freak out.

This. Apart from server issues, I enjoyed playing the end of 1.0 (since 1.23), and at first I assumed 2.0 would be pretty much 1.23 with better server structure and some cosmetic enhancements (UI, character creation etc.). However, at this point it seems like they'll be changing pretty much everything 1.23 was, and most of the things I've read and seen so far haven't pleased me. This saddens me as I'd really love to commit to another FF MMO for years to come. What troubles me is that as I wrote, I really don't know what the game will be like compared to 1.0 (or 1.23). I can't hype the game, can't plan anything for our 1.0 LS, can't really do anything but wait for the launch and hope for the best.

People are telling others to wait for the beta to experience these things for themselves. However, not all content will be included in the beta version and things may change a lot between beta and launch. And even if I would be able to try all the content in the beta, I'd like SE to tell us what are the ideas behind the content we're testing, where they're going with certain mechanics, what kind of content additions they're planning for the future etc.

NDA isn't there to keep things secret before beta, it's there so that SE can control how they portray their game. It's a completely different thing to play some class by yourself a bit and to see that class portrayed by the game company on a video, telling their vision for the class' role, showing the high level skills in group play and so on. And this is what I'd like to see them doing.

You also have to remember that not everyone will be in the beta, and many potential players won't even bother to apply for a beta of a game they know nothing about. If I heard about this game for the first time today, I would take one look at the official site, find no information on the release date, how classes work, what kind of content there will be... I'd probably just forget about it.

    Your points are valid.

The only thing I would take issue with you is your statement about not knowing how classes and jobs work. What is on the official site is fairly straight forward. They plainly state what every class and job does, what they use to do their jobs, and what role they play in a party and in the world. The only thing missing is the list of abilities, and the class requirements for each job. One could call all that not enough information, but saying that it is no information at all is a stretch, I think.

Can you elaborate please on what exactly they are changing that you don't like. I'm curious.

It's not easy to make a list but I'll try (all based on public content):

    - new battle mechanics (I enjoyed the 1.23 system, the new seems a bit too hectic for me...can't really tell how it is on max level though)
    - the quest system (the quests we've seen so far seem to be nothing but simple, boring fetch quests)
    - the graphical style (everything looks like it's made of wax), animations are way too flashy (this will be changed, I think)
    - very instanced world with auto-traveling (makes the game world a lobby server instead of a, well, world.. not that 1.0 was any better really)

I don't know, maybe it will all turn out just fine for me and I'll find myself enjoying the game. At this point I just find myself more worried than hopeful. And nothing I've seen so far has made me feel like "that seems so cool, can't wait to play that!" But I've decided to try the game at launch in any case, no matter what the beta will be like.

1.0 didn't have GCD, so if anything 1.0 was more hectic?

Ofc, since they left out story quest, to not show spoilers. That just leaves boring leve quests and such.

They'll add skin shaders etc later, to make it look better; if not before, at least during phase 3, with other char costumization.

    It's same as 1.0.
The difference is that there will be a zone transition between south/north/west shroud etc. But in general all zones combined will be approximately the same size as Grid before. But the zones won't be copy pasted like before.
traveling will still cost Anima; which if you auto travel to much, you'll run out of anima, and you'll be forced to travel on foot, just like before.
