I like frog
Oh so, we all know (as Yoshi stated many times) that the game have to compete with other "AAA" MMOs, is being remade to appeal people from various games etc etc.
And the marketing "foxes" will give the "Ok" to release (again) a game without pvp, without housing , or some innovative content.
If the housing or pvp will be ready ""just"" after the release, why not delay the game by 1-2 months and release a complete game? I can already imagine the reviews or the comments of new players like:
Where is the PvP? (and YES i don't care about pvp, but other ppl yes, and maybe nowadays is prefered over the PvE).
Or even more.. Which is THE rapresentatice content of ARR ? You know, every mmo "AAA" has at least 1 rapresentative thing like:
-WoW has set almost every standard in mmo,
-Rift with his uhm.. "Rifts" did start large scale open pve
-SWTOR have very nice story lines all with voice acting, path to chose etc.
-Tera have a very nice combat system and political system.
-TSW: Modern setting , nice story, and investigative quests that requires the internet browser
-GW2 (imho is the best example of what a new MMO should have. Like new/never seen/innovative features) Skill based / no item based gameplay, MASSIVE RvR PvP, no queque on server (overflow system), dynamic fast paced BS (you'll rarely stand on the place like FF) no quests but dynamic events, no class trident (dps, tank, healer), very nice characters customization: both for aestetics and skill develpoment, Cross server friendlist + "guest feature" to travel in the other servers to met your friends (how much would pay for a thing like this in FFXIV to be a "guest" on other server since we're going to have regional servers? ) and it's B2P.
So the question is.. How FFXIV: ARR will compete against these MMOs , if it will be released again without a standard and commin thing like PvP ..? And also as i mentioned before, wich will be the "innovative" content of ARR, the others mmo don't have?
(Yes, i'm worried)

Well Dragonheart... while all those games did some things well they messed up terrible in other ways to the point that .... If Final Fantasy XIV ARR does all those basic things well and some things more than well it will be able to compete even without any innovation at launch.
The amount of spelling and syntax errors throughout this thread is enough to make me not want to read anymore of it. Stop being so damn impatient, the game hasn't even hit beta yet you are asking for finite details about game structure. All of what we are about to experience is subject to change. If they do give us info, then it does change, it'll just lead to people like you and a few others who are so upset they don't know information on a game that hasn't even hit a beta test yet to cry some more.
Information will come when the game is ready. Clearly it is not ready, it hasn't even been put through a beta phase. A tentative release date of 4-5 months from now could very well change to 6-10 months from now. What will you do then?
You'll get info when it's time, until then you'll have to deal with it just like the rest of us.

You bring up quite a bit of good points there, Dragonheart. A few I never even considered before. I totally agree with having PVP ready at launch for the reasons you mentioned. If the game doesn't have PVP at launch it could hurt the game's initial launch and subsequently have a detrimental affect on overall sales. Just as you state, reviewers and websites will probably be critical of the game for that reason, and that reason alone. As silly as it may seem to most of US that follow the game, or maybe don't care for PVP much, or that played 1.0 that didn't have it.....trying to attract as many players as you can to your new shiny MMO has to have it all.....and ALL at launch.
There are still people out there that have NO IDEA that ARR is coming out. There are still people out there that have NO IDEA that 1.0 was fixed, that there's a new dev team and they rebuilt the whole game from scratch. This needs to be taken into account when deciding what to include in the "final version". Because a potential mmo player may have interest in ARR after hearing about it, read a review of the game and say "pfftt ...it doesn't have PVP?? Looks like they never fixed FFXIV like they said they were going to". Let me remind you that there are people out there that have no idea FFXIV was remade at all, and I'm sure those people wouldn't know, that if PVP isn't included at launch...... that it'll be added in a later patch.....they'll just assume if it's not there, the game doesn't have it period....and go somewhere else. There goes a potential customer...
Now granted for most of us....maybe the point I bring up is 0.0 but there are people out there that would be comfortable enough with a new MMO if it offered similar things like PVP. It could make their transition-from a game they've been playing for years that offered this kind of content-much easier and makes them feel more at home, so to speak.
I'm just concerned about this issue because ARR needs a successful and profitable launch. A nice jolt in sales and subs to make up for what they lost....and also so we can have a future with ARR.

The thing is.. This is really a discussion for the beta forums. There's really nothing that can be achieved with these questions right the frack now in a public setting. When we are in beta, please do discuss, demand, criticize, worry, praise, question, and suggest to your little heart's desire.
Yeah you guys actually make a good point. I myself am not big into PvP (yet..) but as ARR has been designed to the standard hoping to attract a wider playerbase than XI ever did, they kinda forgot that PvP these days is 'standard'. If/When it launches without PvP, an entire population of players who are major fans of PvP will have an incomplete game. Given that this is already XIV's second launch, I'm not sure they're going to want to hear "it's coming soon(ish)". I know 1.0players and XI fans wouldn't mind, but that large population of gamers that SE is targeting may have some issues. Too many other standardized MMOs out there already that have included all the basics. You bring up quite a bit of good point there. A few I never even considered before. I'd rather SE hold out on launch, maybe extend the Beta, and release this game at least at the 'standard' they've been clamoring about this whole time.
