It was so funny when i read the last producer letter from Yoshi P. that he was a big fan of Dark Age of Camelot (EA Mythic, released in 2001/2002?)..

I was like "Lol, i thought these japanese guys play JRPGs all day long". and then i was like "wow Yoshi P. is really the best for SE to direct a MMorpg like this. He has real MMorpg experience. DAOC was aussum"

DAOC was my first MMorpg by the way. and i liked that it didnt had that "linear" stuff that we know from other MMorpgs these days... it had great 3 faction openworld (!) pvp also in seperated frontier areas. maybe yoshida wants to introduce something similiar for the public companies, who knows. (although i think TESO will be for for the pvp player base, because matt frior, the founder of DAOC is producing it)

i really dont think that TESO is becoming something linear and instanced like SWTOR.
(like everybody talking about that in here)
because it'll be much, much more openworld. and when we have seen the last MMO that really offered openworld? the most MMorpgs played around instances (which isnt a bad thing, but for pvp it is in my opinion).

i really see the potential in TESO to become a real different (more oldschool) feeling like DAOC.

well i think im ending up with playing both. at least testing TESO out. On the other hand FFXIV ARR is going to be the more story and franchise bound MMOrpg. I mean to fight shiva, omega weapon and so on is just freaking awesome. and i think FFXIV is going to cater the PVM player base much better.

That's your first mistake. There's tons of Japanese patches for games that never make their way to Japan much like there's tons of english patches/ssn generators/vpn methods for Chinese/Korean/Japanese games for the same reason.

well let me say it this way. at least not the wide audience of japanese players play -very- western games like DAOC.
it also has been released in Asia.

but i havent really thought about yoshida, a director of Final Fantasy playing it back then.
it was funny to read and a reason to like him even more.

No it isn't. It's not going to be anything like Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim except online (because that would be AWESOME) It's going to be WoW meets Warhammer. Basically.

If you are looking for an open world more sandbox type of game like DAOC you will be disappointed with TESO, I can almost guarantee that. You are better off looking at ArcheAge or EQ Next and Black something...

I really don't have a whole lot of optimism for TESO because they decided to go for the formula MMO just like SWTOR did except for the voice overs, and everyone is already playing games like that. Nah so far in my book FFXIV wins because they are more flexible in the kind of features that matters to them and to us as fans.

It's really not going to be anything like WoW, and a lot more like DAoC (which incidentally is not a sandbox MMO anyway and absolutely never was.). ESO is being made by the same guy who produced DAoC. The base systems are almost exactly copied from DAoC.

XIV is going more for the "formula MMO", too. GCD, more solo friendly, etc. In fact, I would go as far as to say that ESO will innovate more than ARR.

Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting big time for ARR too. Just correcting your blatant misinformation. ESO will be a great game; ARR will be a great game. They'll be different games, and I hope they are both a huge success. This whole "MMO vs MMO" thing is ridiculous, and pointless.

Actually I agree with that, I'm answering the OP's question though not relaying my entire MMO belief. I know that someone from DAOC is in the head of this game and so far honestly that still doesn't sell it to me, especially since you can't go from one Province to another with one character... I hate that about faction PvP centric games.

How do you know it will be a great game? I'm sorry but many 'it's going to be a great game" MMO turned out into complete messes, Vanguard being the PRIME example. As for the sandbox thing, try out the definition and you'll find many games fit into that category then you realize. And the person I was replying to was talking about an open world experience which is usually in a more sandbox type of game, like if you would just take Skyrim and take it online, do what you want, when you want in whatever order. Now that would be awesome. I doubt TESO will be like that, not with classes and levels.

I'd love to proven wrong of course, I am signed up for the beta and all, but I am not going to hope for anything that I would actually like to see being a fan of Bethesda and the single player games, because that's a setup for disappointment, call me jaded if you will but I'd rather be cautious, then believe it's going to be grade A AWESOME, when there are still a lot that isn't known.

I did that with FFXIV.... And look at us now!

Everyone else, Bethesda developed the single player games they are NOT developing the MMO. That would be Zenimax their parent (?) company which hasn't released anything yet... And the single server is chopped up in instances like in GW1, so while you are on the same 'server' you are not all into the same place really. And when you log in you'll be plopped into the same instance as your guild, friends or people with the same interest as you if all else fails.

WHICH honestly might be yet another problem?.. :S

EDIT: Actually I was mistaken in my calling it WoW meets Warhammer you are right, it's more DaoC meets GW2 meets WoW in the Elderscrolls, with LotrO synergy?
