TESO the biggest rival for ARR?

TESO at least gets advertising, you certainly don't see a similar post on there board (No I didn't check). Why I mention this is as I browsed a number of FFXIV sites last night TESO advertisements kept popping up. Gotta love google profile targeting.

There are four posts on the larger fan-site's board (no official boards like us lucky folk!) that mention FFXIV. Two are from people also looking forward to ARR, one is commenting on lifetime membership and using FFXIV 1.0 as an example of why you shouldn't offer it (lol?!) and the last is saying how it would be nice to sell wares from a shop, like FFXIV tried to do with Market Wards.

But no, no 10-page thread. I like to think that's because we've got a much more vibrant and informed community!

I watched the TESO cut scene...I'm just disappointed...
for a game company that big, they can do much better job. they have good action movement, but it's all flat and dull if you look for details, such as the face, clothes... at all the action fight, camera shake so much, you can't see anything...

mission/story: donno too but faith on SE. if you watch TEOS tried to give a background history...it's not even that good...

B&S is just another korean series by the same company, I think they will all have same fate...

The CGI trailer for TESO is nice and all, but... meh. The gameplay talk-to-the-dev video is even more meh. Some screens make the game look straight out of skyrim (the only ES game I've played at length, I'll admit), but other screens make it look like WoW and Fable had a child.

I'll stick with XIV.

go play the elder scrolls Morrowind with Morrowind Overhaul.

the creepy design has always been there but just like every thing else that gets put on consoles the world design took a nose dive oblivion and onwards.

You know what impressed me about the trailer?

I didn't even realize this was a TES game until I saw the White Gold tower in the background. If I had watched the trailer without knowing what I was in for, I would have thought it another generic fantasy game featuring three generic fantasy characters instead of the iconic TES warrior/rogue/mage triumvirate.

This is not a good sign.

I agree, though I'd like to edit my old statement. I meant meh more as in it just feels like more high-fantasy stuff. The visuals were gorgeous though.

Elder Scrolls Online is the most anticipated mmo right now in the U.S. The hype is big. But...I have no idea how the Elder Scrolls franchise is received in other countries. Final Fantasy has a large fan base all over the world.

As far as competition in the U.S. - I think it will be a timing game for SE.

It seems there's a pretty big interest for it in Europe. Probably not so much in Asia, as it won't have a supported release there.

I hadn't even heard of TESO until you mentioned it. If it's coming out that soon, then that's some terrible marketing on their part.

TES is a very different universe to FF. I don't really forsee it taking lots of customers away.

It's due to come out this year, but has been in development for 5. Development started a bit after Oblivion.

100 billion or so meaningless quests against the quality of ARR, TESO does not stand a chance in the long run. Sure I wouldnt be surprised if they get mmorpg of the year but that would not mean jack to me. TESO will probably will have its niche audience but I dont see any real FF fans leavein ARR for that game unless they aren't real FF fans. I cannot emphasize enough how extremely over hyped that game will be and I can see it going Pay to win in less than a year.

I wouldn't say that ESO will have a niche audience. It could be said that ARR will have a niche audience. Just depends on what you like. I'm looking forward to them both.

Idk why TESO is even getting this much attention. Like I said.. It was just a mod made by a modding community..
This is like Day-z / The war-z all over again. I said it would flop and it did.. Why? Because modders made it and they don't know nearly as much as they'd like to think they know.. TESO is a mod. It will almost certainly fall flat on it's face..

I don't even know where you got this information from. ESO is not a mod of any sort. It's a standalone MMO being made by Zenimax Online Studios, a sister company to Bethesda (both being owned by Zenimax Media).

Just curious, since I haven't been following TESO news, like at all, did they say anything new about hosing in that MMO? Cause, in one of the first interviews about it they were all like "There'll be no housing cause it's difficult to implement it in a MMO" which made me go WTF seriously?!

That was a misspeak/quote. Housing will not be in at launch, but they are planning to add it sometime afterwards.

They in fact do have official boards. They're temporary boards, yes, and for some unimaginable reason not linked to on the main site, but yes there are official boards. They're using the Bethesda boards for the time being.


As much as I'm looking forward to ARR (and I dearly, dearly want it to be a huge success), I'm majorly following ESO right now and I'm telling you guys, the game is going to be a smash.

It's being lead by two guys who were the front men for very successful MMOs (Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot), and their team is comprised of people who have both played and worked on MMOs before.

If you're interested in learning more about the game, here's a link to all of the video interviews/podcasts done up to this point. Again, not trying to take away from ARR's glory, as FF is very near and dear to me. ESO is not going to be some F2P in 6 months flop, though, you can be sure of that.
