    Can you explain what's the geomancer ability or magic like in your mind?
    the whole geomancer concept is super confusing...

    I checked around some websites, but I just get more confused. Originally, I thought they use some earth spikes or traps thing... but with ffxiclopedia's explanation it just sounds like a support job that enhance people's ability around you according to where you stand relative to mobs... the rest is mis-post cus they put all rdm's spell and abilities in geomancer's page...

    See this is how scholar could be added allowing them to change the area around them into any terrain then that allow the geomancer to take control of his spell to win the fight. but alone they wont be that useless they could also gain some spells from scholar or have there own way to change the terrain just not as powerful as a sch.

    I would love to see Geomancer. It was awesome in FFT.

    One aspect I liked was how it did elemental damage with a status effect. Would be a lot of fun to play in FFXIV!

    I would say it is a mixture of support and elemental magic. Their weapons also do elemental damage. Check them out in ff3 or ff tactics.

    As Shogun basically stated, its mostly the way terrains and atmosphere is being designed in terms of the job itself, but the skill system in XIV/ARR is based around pre-existing skills rather than shifted skills based around terrain/weather. This is why I'm waiting to see how it works in XI with the setup of "pre-existing" skills since it will give a better idea of how SE could improve on it in XIV so we'll have a better base idea to work with.

    It's partly why SE said there's no current plans for Blue Mage, since Blue Mage and Geomancer are the two unique mages that tend to have some difficulties in design.

    In a later future, yes. RDM has an higher priority, because of reasons.

    That would help lol. I just don't see it working out very well if they didn't have something like you said (allowing you to call elements on demand) - or that they didn't actually rely on nearby terrain (but that's one of the core points of geomancer).

    Although I think people want scholar as a job too.

    Perhaps if they can summon in basic elements by force? Simple draw fire to the ground* and then cast ball on the fire to turn it into a molten ball..

    That is less about terrain and more about just creating your own spells though..

    *really wish SE uses aoe placement and not auto target - you can do a lot more placing stuff yourself.

    Instead of having a variety of elemental spells, they could have one spell called "Use Terrain" or something to that effect. So if the geo is standing on stone the spell may default to "Fissure" and if on wood the spell may be "Splinters". Also there could be another spell called "Use atmosphere" which could default to an air element attack unless there are other atmospheric changes present. "atmospheric pressure" would be awesome.
