my answer is a very clear and firm NO
i don't think i have to elaborate the many reasons why in detail since they were all pointed out several times in the pages before
o)people forced to play in perpetual night/day
o)severely crippling any future possibility to make days and nights unique with nocturnal monsters and such
o)forcing people to play in a setting that is out of synch with their own if they are in a area not supported by local servers (australia)
    the list goes on

But since i made the effort of reading most of this thread so far i don't have to worry about this because the stance of the majority is very clear in this case:

the "Persuade by Force" option might be hard^^

Not every idea is a keeper

You have no idea how often on various XI forums and linkshell conversations where it's been an issue and I've had to ask "do you mean the next game day, or next real life day?"

But apparently I'm the only one who's ever had this frustration. That's fine. I figured that this bugged a lot of people, but apparently I was wrong.
Even if more would agree with you and shared in your frustration, it still doesn't change that it's not at all enough to sync to real time.

You're basically saying they should change it based on players being incapable in explaining pop conditions or mission triggers. That is not a problem with the system. That's a problem with the players.

I liked WoW's 24 hour clock. Just thought I'd add that here.. :P

It wouldnt kill me to see the smaller numbers though (like 2 hour game days) but If the clock isn't 24 hours then please SE make the clock in easy divisible numbers, seriously... lol 1 minute in game time was 2 11/12 a second irl.. wtf? XD

The game clock is based on 1 year = 1 week in earth time.

o)severely crippling any future possibility to make days and nights unique with nocturnal monsters and such

-) there are thousands of games out there with no day/night cycle at all, thereby forcing people to play in perpetual day/night and nobody complains about it in those games
-)Good, I don't really care for those anyway. Frankly, I think days and nights are unique enough by being day and night
-)Even if a region doesn't get any physically located servers, they can still set a particular server to be synced to that region's time zone

whoops, I got pwned lol. It's worse than I thought.

At second glance, I realize now- Conquest updates in Vana'diel were roughly every half year, not full year (if it was a full year per conquest update, the game year would be a lot further along than it actually is in FFXI)

Thanks for that. It's been a while since i've even looked at the wiki with the game offline.

I, too, am against real time in-game, for most of the reasons mentioned earlier.
If it's realism for the year count that you want, then only the day/month should change. The year could be manually updated by the devs at each patch. Problem solved!

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
    (Marvelous economics IQ test!)

I am in FAVOR!!! my immersion of my char's age and things he does is lost if a day only lasts 30 mins
as i said in another thread i wouldn't mind day and night lasting longer 1h to 1:30 longer to enjoy more each phase
and the "oh but muh NMz only pops at nightz!" card is OVERRATED! shit doesn't need to be bound by that

In otherwords, your suggestion is that we go back in time every patch? oook....

Actually, it does. If you switch to real life time and decide to still implement events around specific times of day, you're shooting yourself in the foot because you're alienating part of your playerbase. So the next logical step would be to just forego setting things by time of day and instead use some other means with which to control events.

Considering in-game time is inherently inconvenient, using RL time is a pretty huge gain in convenience to the player.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
