Yeah dude, that's what I said you said. For some reason though, you're also making pessimistic assumptions about the future/lifespan of a current console/support for a game you aren't helping develop. My argument is that, even if ARR itself succeeds overall, it may not last much more than a year on PS3. What's the point in getting the PS3 version if there's a good chance of it not getting any expansions?
Is the choice really "PC or PS3," or "PC now or PC in 2015?"

With what facts and statistics are you basing this off of? I'm fairly certain FFXI on the PS2 lasted many years past the announcement and introduction of the PS3.
A year on ps3? yoour kdding right? considering how the ps2 held steady on ffxi for multiple years? get out of hereMy argument is that, even if ARR itself succeeds overall, it may not last much more than a year on PS3. There's not much point in arguing in this thread anymore. This thread was defeated with the first few replies.
heres a little link for ya http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/...-at-least-2015 now add this plus the continued support for ps3 and look at the past examples of the Ps2 and FFXI you have no source to back up your claims lol
because Curly says so...Final Fantasy XI was released for the PlayStation 2 first before other platforms, during the height of that console's popularity. The PS2 slim hadn't even been announced yet. And yet today, the PS2 version of Seekers of Adoulin will not be released in North America, and in general it is the PC version that seems to get the most support and attention from Square-Enix.
Now we have ARR on the horizon. 1.0, at least, was written for and graced the PC first. Meanwhile, all indications are the next PlayStation will be announced by the time ARR hits shelves; and there's certainly no guarantee that Sony's next console will play PS3 games.
With the cards already stacked against the PS3 version, and with the history of FFXI showing that support for console versions will get axed well before the PC version, why is Square-Enix bothering with releasing the PS3 version of the game at all at this point? And why should players make the commitment of buying the PS3 version when history shows they'll just have to move to the PC eventually anyway?

I am basing my assumptions on past behavior.
In the past, S-E's support policy for obsolete consoles was effectively "abandon in place" about a year after the console's successor was released; the only saving grace was that there were no separate console servers to shut down.
In the past, the publication of content available for download stopped soon after the release of the console's successor. Online distribution has not lasted longer than the production of pressed discs.
I'm not asking if they can, but if they will.for a game you aren't helping develop
My PS3 used to have OtherOS. Sony's words are worth nothing.
S-E's support for FFXI on the PS2 lasted for a single expansion pack after the PS3 was released.look at the past examples of the Ps2 and FFXI you have no source to back up your claims lol
