let me rephrase, meaning sometimes gets lost in text. It's okay if you don't like it. That's your opinion and we respect that. But you can't say it's trailer when it's an opener and vice versa. If I had made a trailer when the studio wanted an opener or vice versa, I'd be (virtually) blackbarred from the industry. This is an opening movie, not a trailer. It doesn't pass for a trailer any more than kite passes for a plane.
i know its an opener, however to me it doesnt feel like one. It feels like a trailer because of the way its cut, thats all.
I like this better. Why? Because he could look more badass than being a pretty boy. lol
Whatever he is, he still looks better than before though.

Nah, don't care for a beard on him. Beard does not equal manly ~_~
He does seem to suffer from Square Enix anorexia tho >.>

right, what we're saying is this video is more akin to this:exactly.
Its very hard to convey in words, so let me show the others.
here is an opening for FFXII (bear in mind this is an opening and not a trailer)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L20Ph_IC514
now here is the proper opening with narrative
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGd69sQKyGo
can you spot the difference?

Than this:

Which, by your definition, makes it an opening movie, not a trailer and it doesn't have narrative. Which, again, is what the original japanese page says.
FF14:新生エオルゼア』のβテスターの募集開始! オープニングムービーも公開されたぞ!
or
[FF14: reborn eorzea's] beta test's signup opening! Opening movie also released! (direct translation)
Again, we're not saying you have to like it. We're saying that it's not a trailer. It's an opening movie and therefore akin more to a teaser than a trailer.
when you put it that way, you ruin the entire story QQIt reminds me now of what I think is called a "Forward" (correct me if I'm wrong). Anne and Todd Mccaffrey used this at the beginning of most of the Dragonriders of Pern novels to explain the world of Pern to newcomers as well as set the framework for the narrative.
To summarize a text equivalent of what an outsider might think:
"In the beginning there were 3 nations who battled an evil empire that dropped a Dragon-Ball on their continent. Many were killed. In a last ditch effort, Mr. Oldguy, with the help of blonde Heart Throb, Midget & Blind Girl, and Kitty Mage, attempted to reseal the dragon in another ball, but it broke (probably because you have to weaken the Pokemon first). Mr. Oldguy then sends the warriors of the three nations forward in time.
These warriors find themselves in a place that is still beautiful, but there are still dangers among the shadowy trees and icy mountains. Fortunately Heart Throb, Midget, Blind Girl, and Kitty Mage are all there, and these warriors are ready to face this new world head-on."
Seems like a good enough introduction to me.
I think I'm going to agree with the lighting factor, this is where it shows his back side exposed to outside light before showing his face.

Lots of FF games have characters riding into the sunset on chocobos (although I guess FFT was the first to do it in CG).
As for Hildebrand, uh, I don't know what version of the trailer you're watching but 6:48 shows Odin on Sleipnir for me - and I've watched both the UK and US versions (the only difference is the rating at the start). I even looked carefully throughout the entire trailer and couldn't find that bumbling buffoon anywhere (shame he isn't there though - you got my hopes up for a second!).
Unless he's hidden somewhere in the background of the scene with Y'shtola in Limsa Lominsa.
The first vid is more like a trailer and the second vid is the opener.right, what we're saying is this video is more akin to this:

i feel that the FFXIV opener is more like the first FFXII vid as it doesnt set up the story of the game.
i have never argued semantics or technicality which is why i said your post was akin to a straw man.
i have only argued what i felt, so lets just agree to differ.
