Just how big is that market? After all, ARR will supposedly require less resources than 1.0, which was aimed at hardware from two years ago. The more people who get adequate performance in the ARR benchmark, the fewer people who have a reason to bother with the PS3 dead end.
Like I said before, the Playerbase in Japan is larger on the PS3 than it is on PC.

The same is often said about the PS2, and yet the PS2 version of FFXI is plagued with years-old, game-breaking bugs that force a hard reset of the console.

Even in the Japanese market, S-E has a history of shafting console players in their MMO's, forcing players to migrate to PC in the end.

I don't understand this comment. FFXI still plays fine on the PS2 so what are these supposed years-old, game breaking bugs that force a hard reset. The largest bugs that existed in FFXI were from porting the game over to the Xbox 360 (which is why I don't think it's a good idea to bring FFXIV out for the WiiU; be realistic SE prolly wont redevelop the game for the maximum efficiency for the WiiU they'll just port it like every other multi-platform developer)

And again PS2 support is continuing for FFXI for Seekers of Adoulin in JP because there is a market for it in Japan, I'm not surprised if SE did a market analysis and realized it wasn't a pertinent market in NA anymore and just dropped it.

Only time I know of SE shafting MMO players are people who played Front Mission Online and then SE cancelled it.

And when can we expect the numbers to say the same thing about the PS3? 2015?

From where I sit, the PS2 only got one more round of FFXI publishing after the release of the PS3 before effectively being abandoned. ARR may not even see publication of its core game before the release of the PS3's successor. Why should players believe that the first publication of XIV content on the PS3 won't also be the last?

The game freezes, and crashes on my PC too. Not because of my PC, but because of a bug. I'm not sure if they patched it yet.

At this point you're just speculating things nobody has the answer for. What we do know is that the PS3 is always getting firmware updates, the PSN store will always be there, and there is another mmo game that is in development for PS3 that ties Eve Online together with PS3 users in a game called Dust 514.

The only thing we have to go on is prior behavior. How is it not reasonable at this point to assume S-E will behave as they have in the past?

PSN is a new thing for Sony. Over in Microsoft land, have you tried connecting to Xbox Live with an original Xbox lately?
