Sums it up for me perfectly, i played SW:TOR from beta- launch and about 3-5 months after and it was sooooooooooo fucking boring! was nothing to do unless you reveled in all that was PVP and even then still not much to do. Content was lacking, content updates were few and far between and the gamebreaking bugs/glitches for the most part went half addressed.

GW2, way better game in my books but again sooooooooooo fucking boring. First real "group" content is at level 30, almost halfway to max level. the grind to 30 is painful at best since all quests are random events where it's a bunch of mindless adventurers swinging sticks at anything that moves until a "event complete" sign pops up only to repeat this action every 75 yards until you are level 30. Never got too far into this game before my interest faded to something else.

Tera, fun combat, nice visuals but again was sooooooo fuckign boring, I really did not get far into the game but the questing litteraly hit my like Nyquil. I made it a few dozen quests into the game before i threw my hands up and just said "Fuck it! I'm done!"

I could go on with most games released in the past year that was all rumored to be the "WoW-killer and pretty much make FFXIV a piece of gum on the shoe of players worldwide. In the end I came back FFXIV aand TSW(The Secret World) and said until some game can knock my socks off and not be boring as shit I would not get hyped for anything outside of these two games.

I have a feeling 2013 will be more of the same, a few lesser gems and a bunch of crap rocks to compare with FFXIV which could possibly turn out as a diamond or a lump of hard dirt.

exactly what keith said sounds about right. i'm at point where i have given up on mmo's all together. ffxiv was my hope for a great mmo i could play for years. it failed launch but i saw a type of mmo i wanted to play in it still. i can't say that now, least not as much, but i still see it's possibilities. i will give this game it's best shot i can give. and then that is it, fuk all mmo's. when i find out a mmo does what ffxi did, makes me want to play for years then i'll come back to the industry. i'll play offline games if i want a throw away game that lasts months tops. they don't try to charge a monthly either. 15bucks a month i could just do gamefly, an ever lasting, never ending game list that just keeps coming in the mail. i might be all about party play and progression, but i sure as hell not into mmo's for it's AOL, facebook gameplay.

lastly i am really worried about the pvp, i enjoy a little of it, but mmo's are purposely adding it cause they think it's enough to hold people long periods of time b4 patches and expansions. this is not a fact for most. it's like a shooter, a few months tops and your bored and done. it is in no way an replacement for content. i guess people like me that ffxi was it's first mmo are spoiled, we at NA had an expansion come with it. guess mmo's need to start off with an expansions worth of content for it to truly hold people and succeed. ...and that game was a grind, a very long grind. shows how little there is in other mmo's now. can't even compare.

even though pso2 and skirim looks good, i been threw this too many times, i said that about every mmo. they hide the true turd it is till your playing. even ffxiv isn't showing us what we really want to see to make a true and visible idea if we even want to play it. they are aloud to dance that dance of intrege and hope, collect as many box sales and monthlies they could b4 we realize we need to tap dance on there face and log out for the last time.

Your right. I will play PSO2. Because the game is free and more like Hack/slash kinda games. it wont really make a different for me if i stop playing for few day/week. You dont really need to be fully dedicated to a games Like PSO to stay in touch. So during quiet time in FFXIV:ARR PSO can trully be a great alternative.

It's impossible to please everyone, so it's no surpise that some people aren't as attracted to ARR as others...

But one of the perennial gripes about MMOs is A) Not enough content or B) content that exists is all similar. Both of these things cause boredom, one of the two things that kills it for me (The other is frustration.)

I for one, understand that it is an impossible task to make tons of content and all of it be unique. But there must be enough content available at any given time so that IF I so choose I can make my own variety. 1.0 did have that going for it. Thanks to Yoshi's progressive view of crafting and gathering and its emphasis of making the very best gear yourself, the game actually opened a well of activity that I have not found to be repeated in other games. No other game out there has the crafting and melding system that was so accessible, so addictive, and so fulfilling.

So long as this tradition continues in ARR, I don't see myself getting bored because I'm forced to spam F.A.T.E, dungeons, or PvP to continue progressing at endgame. That's what I miss the most about FFXIV and I am not finding this in other games. It's why I think ARR will remain competitive in the long run.

The challenge is getting people in the door... but once they're there, I think they'll stay.

I know the feeling because I've thought the same thing about every major MMO for many years now.

I'm looking forward to FFXIV 2.0, but I want to suggest a new MMO to you guys that you may want to check out if you're looking for something truly different from what we keep seeing. If you're bored of the same concepts, check this out.. It's very different. Trials of Ascension. That features section does absolutely no justice to the game. There's is so much more. Magic is not common and extremely difficult to aquire and learn. Nights are so dark you need a torch. You have to eat and drink or you'll starve. Maps don't tell you where to go.. in fact you can be a cartographer and map areas out, selling your work to others. Environment is a factor. Want to cross a desert? Bring a lot of water. Build a house anywhere you want, or make a village with a group of people. Or a castle once you have the money. Live as a thief, break into peoples houses / or hunt criminals... etc etc etc All of that is tied with perma-death. You get 100 lives, so don't waste them. That is the kind of game it is.

If you think the current state of MMO's is stale, particularly if you're a fan of the old sandbox MMO'S, this may be exactly the kind of change you want. There's still a long way to go before this game is close to release, but I'll be following it every step of the way.

I think the only MMO that could give Final Fantasy some problems is... Monster Hunter.

If the MMO came to America, I'd drop FFXIV.

All the Final Fantasy games I have played merged into one timer, wouldn't even come close to the hours I put into Monster Hunter 2nd G alone, never mind the other ones.

wow this does sound fricking amazing. all the things i wanted from ffxiv and pictured prior to it's first launch. hopefully the kickstarter gets going, i'll donate for sure. i been saying the makers of final fantasy and ffxi need to do something like this even if it means kickstarting it. but i guess if companies are realizing that these kickstarted mmo's start making more money then them they will get there arses in shape lol.
