What i'm saying is why should you SkyeWindbinder (I'm just using you as an example, this could be anyone) a female player using a Male Miqo'te character who wants to marry me (again as a exaple) a male player using a male lalafel be deny of that aspect of the game?
SedoSan is a flaming jerk. But that's neither here nor there.

There are reasons why SSM should and shouldn't be allowed. The reasons why they should have more to do with people needing to know how to leave people alone to do whatever they please. People like to judge, because it makes them feel superior. They also like to control others and assimilate them into their way of thinking. But the truth is, all people are different. If everyone was like everyone else, then every person on the planet would die of loneliness. At least, that's what I believe. We need people who are different from us. Because only then can we learn to adapt, understand each other, and accept the world and the people living in it.

The reasons it (by "it", I mean marriage in general, not just SSM) shouldn't be allowed in the game, however, is because, as i said, things like that can make or break a form of media and the people selling it. A lot of the people who will be playing this game will be of one way of thinking or another, and they're the ones funding SE's paychecks. Granted, they're not the only ones paying for the game, but a good chunk of them are, and angering enough of them can be devestating to a game that's already standing on fragile legs thanks largely in part to the 1.0 debacle. Yoshi is going to have to tread carefully. Which is why, if I were him, I wouldn't put marriage in this game at all.

Perhaps it's been posted already, but I'd love to see some actual stats on this. I really think people overestimate the power of a few religious nuts on a game most of them had no intention of playing anyway. Especially when you have games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect which allowed gay relationships far more explicit then FF would ever have, yet don't seem to have been any worse off because of it.

Ideally, they should have just allowed it from the start and avoided making a big issue of it. Maybe a couple people would throw a tantrum about it, but it would have largely been forgotten by the time it launches. By delaying the decision they have made people far more invested in the outcome then anyone would ever been otherwise.

    No arguments there

I agree with most of what you are saying. What i don't agree is that there shouldn't be marrige ( or for that matter any other thing that might be controversial) The dev team of this game or any other game should not be discouraged to to put feateres that might cause the wrath of a grup of ppl, and yeah the anti-gay grup is not small, and yeah if they all diceded to not play a game it would hurt that game a lot. But i don't think that if this game fails is gonna be because a grup of players is angry at a little feature like this. Do you think that the millons of players that WoW has accept SSM?

Well, to be honest, I wouldn't really use a train wreck like Dragon Age 2 as an example, lol. Mass Effect, fine, I'll agree that the game was a huge hit with people. But the dfference is that these are single player games you speak of. Single player games involve way less of an active co-mingling community than MMOs, so there's naturally going to be less of a stink raised over certain issues.

The thing is, WoW is far more developed and established than FFXIV. That MMO has been going for, like, a million years now? It has an established fanbase rooted in years and years and YEARS of service. The number one MMO in the world. If they ever decided to put SSM in their game, it was after they had the people who would continue to keep their game making the big bucks. Really, with WoW, they can only go down in subs from here. They've reached their peak a while ago. WoW is a seasoned MMO, so it would be less of a risk for them to do it. Especially less of a risk than FFXIV, who is bouncing back after the collossal failure of it's former version.
