I stick by what I've said all along.

1) FFXIV should not have marriages in the game at all. They are stupid and silly and add needless drama to the game, I know of several FFXI linkshells that fell broke up over the stupid marriage drama in that game.

2) If they DO end up adding marriages to FFXIV, call them something other than "Marriage". It's in SE's best interest to stay away from toxic political issues.


I think most people would agree with me on that second point.

What you've been saying all along has nothing to do with that. You may have stated these points in an earlier post, but the majority of your posts have been pointless arguments against same sex marriage. There are many people who may or may not support same sex marriage who managed to stick with that second point you made and I agree with that point. They should just rename the system.

Your first point is baseless because what you find stupid and silly is not what others may find stupid and silly. There is drama over loot and many other things, this is a social game. Marriage is just another system, and from a business perspective it's a system that many games in the competition offer that people enjoy. Not only that, the competition allows for same sex marriage.

So again I agree that they should change the name but I do not agree that it is a silly system. Considering Eorzea's take on things are much different from real life and there is plenty of obvious homosexuality in the game, it might as well allow the same sex to take part.

I'll put money on it that more end-game drama was caused by end-game than an in-game marriage. All end-game did was breed drama.

in one of your comments you implied that people would hold the same disgust for SSM as they do for slavery in the future, my apologies if i assumed you were one of those people.

as for disgust, no, more like disappointment. like another poster said you may not be a rep of that community so i will reserve that until i have verification.

Yoshida requested opinions from the community about this subject, that is why this thread still exists.

Although there have been some cases of name-calling the thread is still a debate. They take this information into consideration, and it has been well-moderated as the mods have been actively removing pointless posts.

There are also many "single mum" animals and some females even eat their "husbands".
Of course there are also groups of animals that stay together their whole life like penguins or swans.
There is such a diversity in the unions of animals that one cannot derive "one" way of family from it, specially that is applicable for human beings.

And to stress this: I think allowing SSM does not mean that DSM becomes anyhow less valuable!!!
It is a CHOICE of lifestyle. Personally I really want to have a "classical" family with a husband and children. That is my family dream so to speak.
But that doesn't mean that this applies for others too.
If you just can't love a woman as a man (or a man as a woman) but you still have the really really urgent wish to have a family nonetheless and to raise children with then one you love then what can be done about it? Force yourself to become different? I don't think that will work.
And I think it is the wrong way to protect the DSM by forbidding another kind of marriage.
Speaking of a real society that is worried about birth rates there should rather be measures to strengthen family making (also from an economic point of view because specially for women the work/family factor is difficult and it is also difficult for men who actually want to be fulltime fathers).
Allowing LGBT to marry won't make more people gay. There will be more orphans that could then possibly have a family though. Homosexuality always existed.

I think we could close this thread though, under the condition that we get a rep response indicating they have passed on the following info:

1. That the player demand for the removal of the gender restriction is there (just check the front page poll if you don't want to read through 740+ replies).

2. That a large number of players are okay with the idea of renaming marriage to something else, especially if it helps them remove the gender restrictions.

Maybe it's just me but I think I could live with a response like that. At least then Yoshida would know of our feelings about the new announcement and that we're open to some alternative ideas regarding it if need be. What he was told before was just about marriage in general, before it was truly a confirmed feature.

They all add some sort of romance lol, though most of them where tradiontional love relationships. You skipped 9 btw :P

Until I thought of Tidus X Yuna I was pretty statisfied with the ritual bonding but now... I'm thinking marriage has to be added lol.

SE dont be a puss :P You always love having relationships its often a key point of your game. In FFXIV its our story - so its time to make our relationships. I'm already married* so I'd probably do it for fun but I know of a few real life and in game players that met and married (irl) from FFXI.

* Slowly whittling my wife into playing more and more games but RPGs is hard for her to get into, it will happen I swears it, maybe in FFXX Online but it will happen >.> lol
