i'd prefer to look at it like: i can do it myself, instead of looking around, pestering others to craft stuff for me all the time.Every oversimplified measure taken will benefit the majority in a diverse community. This is because with a varied game where you can do many different things, only a small portion of the players will be excited about a specific content. You can't have everyone enjoy everything. This is why in every topic brought up where things have been made easier, there are millions saying how they now love it, and a few saying how dumbed down and oversimplified, not fun it is. The question is, is this the only way to please the majority, or is it even the right way?
To me this benefits the lazy and creates a community of uninterested carefree players. Of course more players will enjoy gathering and crafting now that's faster and easy. Of course NOW it seems better and they might actually give it a shot, when they didn't in the past. But is it really saying something when that happens to someone who didn't care about crafting at all? Do we really want a person who does not care about crafting to be a crafter, no matter the cost? Do we want them interested in it, or just doing it?
Oversimplified systems make lazy uninterested people do content they don't like, simply because it's easy. But it doesn't get them any more interested in it. When you are interested in something, you work on it. If 1.0 was that bad, we wouldn't have so many players doing it. This is not to say it didn't need improvements, such as remembering the recipes, having the menus respond faster, etc. But it had some challenge, some work to be done, which kept interested players in and uninterested players out. It doesn't have to be rocket science, but too easy is just as bad as too hard.
On another note, "could care less" means you actually care a little bit.
i can go out and gather what i need instead of buying overpriced items, that are easy to get; Overpriced, cause it's bothersome to lv up crafting, and cause lazy people prefer to pay overprice instead of gathering themselves. that wont really change, so those that aren't interested in crafting still wont bother.
i'm thinking end game gathering same lv items are gonna have 50% or less chance to succeed. and gathering higher lv items, gonna be less. so they'd need to spend tonnes of time trying to get the mats themselves...and lazy ppl wont do that.
And it's just silly overcomplicating something as basic as gathering materials and crafting to begin with.
it's just one aspect of the game, but when everything is overly complicated just for the hell of it, it's what made 1.0 fail so miserably. and it would be stupid to make that a feature. it would only make people dismiss ARR, and it would fail again.
why do people care so much about what others do?I'm not arguing 1.0 was a lot of fun or ideal, I'm arguing it can be made to be. And it doesn't have to be easy to be fun. At all. How can I make crafting and gathering more fun than the game allows it to be? Interested crafters will only be annoyed at how easy anyone can be a high lv crafter. In XI it was a time consuming ordeal, but it still kept the amateurs apart from the professionals. Unless you were really persistent or you thought you could make a lot of money out of it, you wouldn't take it past 30 if you didn't enjoy it.
I'll give you a different perspective: I never enjoyed crafting in past games. I did a bit of crafting in every game I played, but it never felt fun. It was boring, repetitive, sometimes necessary, but over all another grind I wasn't interested in.
and why do you feel the need to divide yourself away from others, calling yourself pro, and dismissing the amateurs?
amateurs are nice people too, and fun to chat/play with, so why the hell does it matter if they can craft and gather too?
it's a fun game, you shouldn't be entitled to some content, just so you can feel special.
you can show off your trophies in the form of Bahamut gear or whatever. Crafting should be the poor mans option to gear up a bit if they cant raid for whatever reason.
aye aye! Seriously though an MMO is meant for everyone...hence what it's called MMO. That's kind of the point of it so everyone and anyone can play. massively MULTIPLAYER online rpg.why do people care so much about what others do?

It looks much improved from 1.0, yet I can't currently make sense of any patterns in durability dropping between one synth action and the next... It makes it seem really random, which makes it seem like crafting 'safely' will be difficult.
It is very cool. It actually makes me want to start crafting and farming rather than buying materials and begging my friends to meld it. The only thing I didn't like are the bars over the enemies names. I think they are fine in close range but in long range it kind of ruins the atmosphere of the area.
What? He clearly broke the NDA, and there are consequences to that. I was saying that I hope that SE turns a blind eye to this, otherwise he would be kicked out.
Video looks good. But Christ, internet police, give it a break. I thought mods were in charge of doing this and I don't see red helmets in your avatars. AKA Let people who break NDA get an email and 24 hr ban and rock on down the road.
So you say, but not everyone strives to level all DoH classes, so I think to them it's just inventory clutter. ^_^;Sadly, I think the gathering is more of a random chance thing now and there's no guarantee of getting anything. Before there was always a great chance of getting at least something (even if it wasn't the item you wanted, you could sell it or use it for something else, whatever) if you simply knew how to read the remainder bar for that area, but the new gathering system will mean a lot of pointless misses with no positive result at all... As a crafter who levelled all of my crafts together, I could often use the things I wasn't aiming for too. Old system: aiming for ore and miss? Fine, I can use that alumen for LTW. New system: aiming for ore and miss = get nothing...
I have gone out gathering for hours and end up with loads of worthless items, and before I can really go out and do anything else, I need to make sure I unload myself first (whether it be through vendoring to an NPC or putting up items for sell). This may sound silly to many, but I dislike dropping items to the ground unless it is like worth 1 gil only. XD
